Philip Lahm: Amazing player appearance.
Philip Lahm has played in every single match in all competitions for Bayern Munich for the past three seasons.
Re: Lahm defensively solid?
Yes, every match after the 0-4 against Barcelona in the CL.
He was injured during that game and was replaced by Christian Lell of all people. Lell vs Messi - as soon as I saw the formations, I knew the game would be a catastrophe for Bayern.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
You are suffering from being deceived. They're stats from one match.
Lahm hasn't been at his best this entire season though, yes. Also he has been awful since the winter break. Let's hope he'll get back to his best. Which is being the best. While also being humble and respectful.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
Honestly, he has been more attack minded than I've seen him before.
He's leaving a lot of space behind him and making Bayern vulnerable to the counter. Not as defensively sound as in previous seasons.
Still, It's all Badstubers fault and Lahm is still the best fullback in the game.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
Remember he's in his transition period. Name me another fullback than can pull off both flanks without too much problems. Yes, he hasn't been his best, and yes, he's had some pretty shitty games, but take into account he's on his weaker foot and will take at least a season to fully adapt.
Also, he's never frakking injured and plays every goddamn game. Pretty much a German Zanetti.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
With Lahm going onto expeditions into the oppositions' penalty box all the time, Badstuber actually has to take care of the space Lahm leaves open and his own job as CB, thus he's working for two. And even that he does pretty well!izzy26 wrote:Still, It's all Badstubers fault and Lahm is still the best fullback in the game.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
Lahm is still the best fullback out there, he just isn't on form. And he's still not bad, he's just very wing-backy ATM, to be perfectly honest I like him that way, primarily because it suits Germany well and I hardly give two sh*ts about Bayern.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
Ah good. Sorry I misread that ^^
BTW, that means Stubsi is even better as he has to work for two and does that formidably
As for Lahm - atm he looks more as if he wants to work as assistant winger. I'm waiting for the "back" part to show up more again. ^^

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
I've been a bit skeptical of Lahm's defense for a while now.....ever since Kazim-Kazim Richards tore him up at the Euro.....but at the moment I'm not convinced there's a better defender at LB than him.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
He had an entire proper season so far, he's been the most consistent defender of the Bundesliga so far, with Hummels messing up a couple times and Höwedes being injured.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
When he tackles his win rate in tackles is low. Combine it with his slow recovery speed when he messes up and you see some crucial danger situations. No defender is perfect but he has to make up for his shortcomings with other tricks. Tackle win rate is managable, 80%+ is a must for a top team defenderVivaStPauli wrote:He had an entire proper season so far, he's been the most consistent defender of the Bundesliga so far, with Hummels messing up a couple times and Höwedes being injured.

Re: Lahm defensively solid?
I'd be curious if there's actually more than like 3 defenders with consistently high tackle success rates of 80% and more.
And it also depends, a lot, on the kind of tackles you need to make and even attempt, which depends a lot on your positioning and how many through balls your midfield allows.
Stats are dangerous.

Errors in CB position even more. With a skilled guy like Diego Milito, each lost 1 on 1 was a goalVivaStPauli wrote:I'd be curious if there's actually more than like 3 defenders with consistently high tackle success rates of 80% and more.

Well, this table might surprise you. Where won tackles are concerned for the whole season so far, you find Badstuber actually even in front of Hummels. If you discount Merte (who only had 4 matches in the BL), Stubsi is actually in the top ranks there with his average of 67,80% won tackles in 19 matches.
