Getting to know: Federico Viviani

La Primavera - Page 2 Df3bb15d8418e1bc86d9644a4593c9dc-34321-c01ce47a9b42c9f42b3418c1c7dd8688

Federico Viviani, central midfielder born in 1992, is one of the most promising talents from this season's Scudetto winning Primavera side. Everpresent figure in the middle of the park for Alberto De Rossi, the young Romanista during the last season made 23 appearances and, although he was used in a "De Rossi-like" position, managed to find the back of the net 6 times, demonstrating great technical ability and a great vision. Viviani seems to be following in the footsteps of the midfielder of Ostia, which he takes as an example as stated during the press conference at the ritiro in Riscone di Brunico, for which he was summoned by Luis Enrique. The Spanish coach seems to want to focus firmly on him for Roma's future and during Roma's last outing, in the triangular tournament with Paris Saint Germain and Wacker Innsbruck, Viviani was used against the French in an important position in the new coach's plans as a central midfielder responsible for breaking up the opposition's attacks and quickly restarting the attack. In the second match, against the Austrians, however, he was used as Cassetti's partner in central defense, offering a good performance, albeit not being in his natural position. His flexibility and commitment seem to have persuaded Luis Enrique, who in today's press conference, pointed Viviani out as being the positive surprise in this year's ritiro, to keep him with the first team as a vice De Rossi, after a period in which he was going to be used as a bargaining chip to get to Verratti. Now the future is on his side and Viviani is one of those players on which the new Roma should aim to build a winning cycle, based on a team that draws on both hands from the youth sector.

I am really happy nd excited. But we all should remember that we can't demand instant results. Serie A fans are notoriously famous for their impatience. Someday, we will better than Barca, but now we are a team fighting to get started... Forza roma and Forza Enrique... I want 6 primera stars in first xi within 2 years ... That's the only dream

I was sort of hoping that we would hold onto Crescenzi but i suppose he will get more playing time at Bari than he will with us so maybe it's for the best
The kid has huge potential ....

Hope to see him as our starting RB for the 12/13 season .. Cool

Poor guy, didn't even get a look in this pre-season.

That will be a really poor piece of business if we let him go like we did with Brosco.

Roma have bought Poggibonsi midfielder Federico Mazzolli. The promising 16 year-old will join up with Sandro Trovalieri's Allievi Nazionali.

Loic Nego has been sent down to the primavera and will likely take part in today's Supercoppa encounter with Fiorentina. You can watch the match by liking "As Roma Streaming" on facebook (I suggest not posting the link anywhere to avoid those copyright problems).

Yea, we were leading against Fiorentina, but gave it up late. I wasn't able to watch the game unfortunately so I can't really comment all that much.

Don't know if this is really the right section for this, but I figured I should post this bit of news here. Fabio Borini scored for Italy today, in a 3-0 win over Hungary.

Our primavera campaign started again today, with a match against Juve Stabia. The match ended 0-0, but saw both teams have two goals chalked off. Roma had a goal called off in the 13th minute, after Verre had his shot deflected in by a Juve Stabia defender; the goal was called back for a presumed offside by Tallo. Juve Stabia then had two goalscoing chances called back for offside, while in the 86th minute, Leonardi had his goal disallowed after scoring with his chest (the referee called the play back for a dubious handball). Ciciretti also hit the post in the 7th minute, with a left-footed strike. Viviani and Sabelli were Roma's best players, while Junior Tallo had trouble getting himself settled into the match.

AS ROMA (4-2-3-1) : Pigliacelli; Sabelli, Rosato, Nego, Ceccarelli (82' Leonardi); Viviani (C), Verre; Caprari, Ciciretti (55' Politano), Piscitella (74' Pagliarini); Tallo.

Bench: Proietti Gaffi, Ricci M., Cittadino, Ricci F..
Coach: De Rossi.

Fantastic reflexes from Pigliacelli on Milan's first attack.

Loved Caprari's goal as well...great to see him so relaxed. Viviani as well. They're understandably uptight when they're with the first time.

Was great to see LE at the game as well....must've been somewhat pleased, if not a bit critical of the win.

The boys went down 2-0 to Santos Laguna of Mexico yesterday and now sit 3rd in their group in the Viareggio Tournament with a game in hand against Virtus Entella. They have to win that match to move into the knockout rounds.

So we've now topped our group at the Viareggio Tournament by beating Virtus Entlella 7-2 (hat trick from Verre, brace from Nico Lopez as well as goals from Frediani and Tallo). This has launched us into the knockouts where we beat Atalanta 3-1 (goals from Nego, Politano and Ricci) and are now awaiting our opponents in the quarterfinals.

Great job from the boys thus far.

02/16/2012

Roma produced a convincing 2-0 win over the Rappresentativa Serie D team (a Serie D Select XI) in the quarter-final match played at the Stadio Bresciani this afternoon to reach the final four of the competition.
The victory by Alberto De Rossi's side was by no means a foregone conclusion. Indeed, things looked to have taken a turn for the worse when they were reduced to ten men at the end of the first half, Ciciretti given his marching orders for kicking back after a foul. But the Giallorossi, who had threatened several times during the first period through Tallo and Piscitella, came out fired up after the interval and knocked the opposition for six with two goals in a quarter of an hour. In the 48th minute Barba broke the deadlock: following a corner, Orchi flicked on and the defender turned in from close range. On 61 minutes Piscitella ended a rapid counter-attack move begun by Verre with a neat finish that gave opposing keeper Rossi no chance. Roma controlled the rest of the game fairly comfortably without running many risks to seal their place in the next round.
Coach De Rossi was brimming with enthusiasm after the game: “It was a hugely satisfying performance, one of the best I've seen since I've been coaching. I'm delighted with them: they stayed extremely compact throughout the whole match even after we went a man down.”
The semi-final will take place on Saturday afternoon: Fiorentina, who beat Lazio 3-1 today, are the final obstacle between De Rossi's boys and a place in the final.
