How has Zapata done at Villareal?

Zapata is a player I rated hugely. Being a huge fan of the way Udinese functioned as a club, the way Guidolin had them playing and the fact that they just genuinely excited me, I watch a huge amount of Zapata and even today I have nightmares of when he outmuscled Ibra (!!!) when we played them away last season. He was next to Silva in my team of the season at CB.

His move to Villareal came as no surprise. What did surprise me, though, was his debut. He made a huge mistake against Odense and looked uncomfortable on the ball all game, something very uncharacteristic for the big man. I look at Villareal now and seem the second from the bottom.

How much of this can be attributed to him?

From what I have seen, Zap has been quite poor. The gaffe against Odense isn't the only one. The worst part of it is that I have no idea why this is considering he was such a beast with Udinese.

He has been just as poor at center back but you could argue that he hasn't played there long enough to be judged accordingly. There's still an adaption process going on.

I look at Zapata's awful form as an irreversible football culture shock. I would suggest sending him back to Italy to which he is most comfortable...

He aint no rightback in La Liga, thats for sure.

Terrible up till now.

He has talent though, he was part of one of the best defences in recent times, Colombia WC qualifying, but again he wasnt playing rightback of a 4 man defence.

How about Botia?

I still believe Botia is a genuine option, just not as big an option as the media will have you believe.... he's a back up option incase first choices dont come off.

Coloccini was probably in the same bracket, he was probably never first choice to buy but an option if others were not to come off.

If he was oblivious then he wouldnt have been even considered, he was a very good defender in La Liga who was just under the radar because he played for a Depor side that was never right at the top.

And you know La Liga if your not in the CL your a nobody lol.

Even if you are you're still a nobody. Villarreal have had a couple of very succesful seasons in Champions League without people rating their players.

Just hasn't settled in La Liga....partially because even when played at CB, he's been woeful and now it's even worse at RB, which I've never seen him play with Udinese.

Sad to see him struggling for form as he's still a defender that I rate highly.
