Zapata joins AC Milan
Galliani better hope he suddenly goes back to being the GOAT he was in Serie A because he may just have been to WOAT Cb in la liga.
Allegri will turn him into Thiago Silva
Edit: On Loan . Galliani

From Thiago Silva to Zapata?
Not that I can afford to be cocky, we might go from Agger to Carragher...

Re: Zapata joins AC Milan
Milan are a smart club..
Zapata is still a very good defender, one can not simply go from being a top defender for nearly almost 4years to being a dirty old bum.
Villarreal had problems and it affected every player, if you are going to deliberately ignore this and not use your brains and act as if Milan will be playing Europa league next season.
I'm sorry that you are in for a shock...

Guess this ends the Yanga-Mbiwa links then. Time for Newcastle to step up to the plate.
Zapata will pick up where he left off with Udinese. Serie A is where he flourished so I see no reason for him to flop.

Well, I agree, but just as true is that Thiago Silva is still a couple of levels above Zapata. You don't get a world-class CB on a free loan with a voluntary option to buy.

Would be a quality signing but i really can't see it, in fact the way this summer has gone putting in tonnes of offers and having them all rejected i have a feeling we will buy no one
Prove me wrong Ashley, prove me wrong.

Re: Zapata joins AC Milan
Zapata struggled with super technical midfields and forwards in Spain. He's better suited for a slower paced and wing-emphasized attacks. He got carved to pieces by inside runs and dribbles. As the OP said, he was in the running for worst defender in La Liga last year. But he has shown he's good in Serie A if his confidence is OK.

Apparently Zapata will fill in, until Yanga contract expires next summer

Re: Zapata joins AC Milan
That would depend on whether he's willing to stay at Montpellier another year. They just lost their best attacker and their largest rival has strengthened ridiculously over the summer. If Yanga-Mbiwa's as good a player as I think he is, he'll still be worth the money Nicollin rates him at this time next year, but that all depends on where he plays for this season.

Re: Zapata joins AC Milan
Zapata was played out of position by Villarreal, Milan got their cool cash and got a much cheaper option who can still win them matches.

Re: Zapata joins AC Milan
Here's the thing with Mbiwa.... he is very grqteful to Montpellier who developed him and have started him since the age of 18. He will not (said so himself on RMC) force a move and will gladly play out his contract if it doesn't work. There will be no tension here.
For Montpellier, 6 million is a laughable offer. Other than PSG, the other CL spots are very open and Montpellier is currently favored to get one. They lost Giroud only and have signed 2 other good CF prospects to replace him. Everyone else is still on the club from last year. You know how much you automatically make if you make CL... 20 mil. Why would Nicolin risk that?
Also, not only can Montpellier not find a suitable replacement this late in the summer (Ligue 1 starts this Friday), they also can only buy shat for 6 mil.
It was a non starter to begin with. It would take 15 million to get Mbiwa from Montpellier. They'd rather make CL and have him walk next summer since that amounts to 20 mil. On the other hand, if Montpellier is in a bad position in December, he will be sold then.

Re: Zapata joins AC Milan
that almost sounds like mbiwa = cl qualification... what if they dont make the cl and lose mbiwa for free next summer? 6 mil is prob a ridiculous offer for a good young defender like him (havent watched him personally) but i thought it was more of a take it while u can sorta deal.

Re: Zapata joins AC Milan
Sounds like a risk Nicollin is willing to take. It's great that Montpellier kept everyone else other than Giroud. Belhanda will now be the focal point for them up front now. Just wonder if they have what it takes to finish off their chances with Giroud not around. Hopefully one of those new strikers Sports alluded to will come good.

Re: Zapata joins AC Milan
Obvious signing from Milan tbh.
Question is, is he REALLY that much of an upgrade to the rest? And worth the reported 7mio?
