Is Rooney a Top 5 player?

Too inconsistent for Top 5,give me current benzema or RVP any day.

Maybe top 5 english player. Gerrard, Wilshere, Lamps, Terry, Rooney.

Denitely top 5 english players. Actually best english player by a margin.

It's just that there are far too many great players nowadays. And all of them are very close. Rooney for me could be considered top 5 player in the world, but only if each spot had several player, because as good as he is, RVP, Aguero, Benzema, Iniesta, Ibrahimovic, Banega (personal bias maybe ), Eto'o, and some others are just as good.

As good as RVP, Benzema or Iniesta ? Never. Footbal is about talent and hardwork. Not only about hard work .

Iniesta has a greater pitch impact than Rooney. Sadly, stats that can show this has not been developed yet or is not freely available.

That being said, Rooney being inconsistent is largely down to his teammates. Considering the role he plays, you can't expect him to create chances and score at the same time with the current support he has at United. From what i have seen, Rooney makes the correct decisions on the field and he executes them very well.

Put Rooney in a team like Madrid or Bayern if you want to get the best out of his ability.

tbf rooney also looks exceptionally demotivated at times of his own accord.

he isnt allowed to show his quality when he has to be put in midifeld b/c the others cant create.... not his fault

The thing is he's better than some of the top 5 players at certain things.

Not in Europe, but definitelly in EPL.
