Bayern Munich's Thomas Muller: Bundesliga is 'a stronger competition' than La Liga & Premier League

The young attacker has voiced his opinion that the English and Spanish competitions lack the quality in depth of the German top flight, which he reasoned is "more balanced"

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller believes that the Bundesliga is superior to the English Premier League and La Liga.

The versatile forward feels that the German top flight has considerably more depth than its English and Spanish counterparts, because there are several teams fighting for the top five places in the Bundesliga.

"For me, the Bundesliga is a stronger competition than the English and Spanish leagues," Muller said to Goal.com.

"In Germany, there are a lot of teams that are fighting for a place in the top five. In Spain, there are only two strong teams, and in England there are four teams.

"There are several strong teams in Germany that can all beat each other. The Bundesliga is much more balanced in my opinion."

With Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen advancing to the last 16 of the Champions League, German will have two clubs in the knockout stages of the competition.

England have two representatives in the round of 16 as well with Arsenal and Chelsea. Spain also boast two challengers in Barcelona and Real Madrid while Italy still have three teams in the race to win Europe's elite club competition with AC Milan, Inter and Napoli.

Cannot disagree with him. Bundesliga is definitely balanced and provides relatively more excitement to the fans as well.

Bundesliga is a balance league and produce it's own players, there are few financial problem as well.

thats just because all those teams are on par with eachother and together Europa League quality... bar Bayern Munich

They'd drop far more points than they do in La Liga, they'd be favorites, but they'd still have Bayern and possibly even Dortmund breathing up their necks.

Though I think Müller is overstating the quality. The competetiveness of the Bundesliga is to a fair amount due to the top teams not being that... Top.

And EPL basically has 5 Top Teams nowadays with City, Utd, Chelski, Arsenal and Spurs - and I guess we all kinda expect Pool to be back there. I'm afraid that kinda shits all over the Bundesligas title race.

Though Bundesliga is probably still less predictable because the bottom teams are better than those of EPL, La Liga or even Serie A.

Well, Getafe got a result versus Barca, too. BL teams are notoriously unfazed by the reputation of an opponent, that's why even teams on the wrong end of the table often get results against top teams. So I wouldn't be too sure that Real and Barca would easily top the BL with 20+ points before the 3rd placed team like they can do in La Liga.

Exactly my point. Yes, in most cases Barca/Real would win. As do Bayern. But those teams will never care about that. Bundesliga teams will always try. Yes, that means teams like Barca would probably score shittons of goals against some teams because they'd keep attacking. But that also means that if Messi hits the post instead of scoring like twice, Barca could be chasing the game against effing Augsburg or some other crap club.

Also let's not forget that from next season on St. Pauli will be back in the first division, and they'd totally wipe the floor with those diving pansies.

But what people really fail to realize when talking about Barca/Real is this: Outside of La Liga, there's no La Liga refs. So suddenly a dive will get you suspended, instead of a penalty. :coffee:

Because Valencia improved mightily or because La Liga has enough cannon fodder in the bottom half?

That's why these league v league discussions rage on, it's hard to prove either way since bottom half teams just don't face off against each other.

Well, Villarreal was not too convincing in their CL group (albeit it was a strong one). Valencia also got sent to the EL, and Hannover (BL 7th atm) kicked out Sevilla (La Liga 7th) in the EL quali.

Dortmund is a weird case as they only went again an EPL, a Greek and a French side.They got defeated by their own naivité.

Competition wise, it is the strongest league having the most champions in a 5 year span than any other league. Obviously, team quality isn't the same as other leagues but as Viva said, they all have huge balls and always try, which is leagues better than the ass gifting most Liga clubs or PL-clubs-against-ManU do.
