I've read all books, missing out on a few of the short stories, the graphic novels and stuff like Arcanum unbounded.

Do yourself a favor and read Arcanum Unbounded

White Sand isn't really required

Though, there are so many revelations in Arcanum, it is a must read, so many shocks. Especially with Mistborn Secret History, it explains a lot about what happened in Bands of Mourning (if you've read that)

"Picture of Dorian Gray"

The first book I've read in English (I don't read a lot) and I loved it. This book is phenomenal. In an extravagant manner depicts the clash between two worlds and the internal transformation of the main character (the impact of cynicism and corruption on an inexperienced and gullible character). Rottenness and beauty at the same time.

Simply amazing.

I've ordered the Stormlight Archive series from Brandon Sanderson today, anything I need to know about the author or the series before starting? Actually excited to start reading again after a while.

Won't really impact anything, but a lot of Sanderson's books belong to the same universe (called "Cosmere"), and there are often cameos throughout the series. Each world in the Cosmere has it's unique magic system and most are not aware of the other worlds, but there are a few characters that jump between the worlds and try to influence events elsewhere.

At this stage, it won't affect your enjoyment or ability to get what's going on at all, it's more of a "oh that's actually X person, that's neat" if you catch them. At least until book 3, where some off-world characters become more important. Specifically 2 of them from Warbreaker. So if you finish SA and want to know more about those 2, that's a natural place to follow up with.

Definitely want to know as much as I can about the world, I‘m hoping this can be somewhat of a replacement for ASOIAF.

Thanks for letting me know.

RIP Philip Roth.

As it happens, I just recently for the first time had a streak of reading a few of his books in a row, finished his alternate-history-meets-childhood-memories The Plot Against America just a few days ago. Fantastic book, fantastic writer.

I somehow missed this

You don't have to follow a reading order for The Cosmere, but just don't look up stuff on google as it is very spoilery. If yoou're starting with Stormlight, i'd go:

Way Of Kings
Warbreaker
Words of Radiance
Edgedancer (Short story, important info)
Oathbringer
Mistborn (all the books in order)
Elantris
Arcanum Unbounded
White Sand (Both Volumes)

I genuinely hope you get back to reading the whole thing, its a fantastic series

Returned to the Malazan series for the first time in like 6 years. @M99

funnily enough it was from the co-author, the far inferior Ian Cameron Esslemont.

Randomly decided to pick it up, mostly out of disbelief. I saw a lot of people that rightfully were underwhelemd by his previous books in the Malazan universe, praise his new prequel series based on the forming of the Malazan Empire, right from the beggining, even saying that the first two books were better than some of the mainline series.

Read the first one, Dancer's Lament. Found that to be true. It wasn't amazing, but it was definitely enjoyable and by far his best book, I liked it better than a couple of the later mainline entries. Check it out sometime if you haven't already and even have a little interest in Malazan nowadays.

You just jumped in? Should’ve refreshed your memory first

Im just finishing up The Black Company right now, not sure if you’ve heard of it but this is what Eriksen was inspired from. Its the same as Malazan, except the writing is much better i think, the first book is 2 quid on kindle i believe

I might return and finish up Malazan at a later date, but as i said before i stopped at book 8, the later books get very stale, too bogged down, especially with Tehol and Bugg, despite their amuzing relationship

Yeah, I know about The Black Company since it inspired Malazan's authors so heavily. Always planned to get around to it but I already have a backlog of stuff I keep wanting to read but kept putting on hold for manga lel.

The last few books of Malazan weren't all that great anyway tbh. I still retained a good knowledge of Malazan since I have a few online friends that are into it and discuss it every now and then. I think being away for years was actually good since I needed a break from it and I always compared the co-author to Eriksen reading them around the same time and that was unfair because he was a hugely inferior writer by every metric.

I'm gonna read The First Law series after I finish up the follow up to Dancer's Lament. Always sounded appealing to me and I think it has a decent rep.
