I've read all books, missing out on a few of the short stories, the graphic novels and stuff like Arcanum unbounded.

Do yourself a favor and read Arcanum Unbounded
White Sand isn't really required
Though, there are so many revelations in Arcanum, it is a must read, so many shocks. Especially with Mistborn Secret History, it explains a lot about what happened in Bands of Mourning (if you've read that)

Re: The Official Book Thread
Yeah im done
- Spoiler:
- I think this is the best book out of the three even better than WoR, my jaw dropped when Dalinar stood his ground and freaking ascended, i take it he is a shardic entity now? Unity? Since Odium claims he is.
The most interesting stuff is the part 2 epigraphs whom are heavily speculated (some given out) to be Endowment, Autonomy and Harmony (Sazed). The most interesting is that one of the letters says 'if Rayse becomes a problem, we will deal with him'. Goosebumps when i read that, who is this guy that can easily 'deal' with him like nothing lol.
Azure=Vivenna was nice, Mraize wanting to control Sja Anat is terrifying. I still don't what his endgame is, he is one of the most intriguing worldhoppers. Wit bonding a spren at the end was expected, i get the impression thats the end of his chapter in Roshar.
The last act was insane, i couldn't put it down. The whole Knights Radiant lead by Dalinar felt like something out of Avengers. Szeth, Kaladin, Shallan, Jasnah, Lift, Renarin

Last act was amazing. Plan to re read it again as a lottt went on. Think a few things got lost along the way there, but it was epic.
Dalinar ascending was absolutely jaw dropping. I was so convinced that he would flip sides, Brandon really got me. He would have been the perfect antagonist, and very tragic, and it seemed to fit his arc. Would make sense to have a big defeat in book 3. Ascencion was the last thing I expected. Will be interesting to find out if he is now a Sliver, just a 5th level bondsmith or an entirely new Shard (Unity) in the making. If the stormfather is not the one that has been telling him "unite them" since book 1, I wonder who has?
Also he's far too overpowered now. Can merge all realms. Has access to limitless supply of stormlight (in light of this fact Szeth should give him nightblood). Access to both bondsmith surges.
Azure leaving was kinda random. She''s allegedly hunting Zahel (probably nightblood) and decides to part ways with the people that know him? I guess Brandon is keeping this card for later.
We got blueballed with Kal's 4th ideal and Adolin reviving his sword. I guess it will formulaically have to wait until the climax of book 4. And speaking of Adolin I wonder how he will react when he finds out the truth about his mother?

- The last act was incredible, i couldn’t put the book down after starting that. Thats a good shout about Dalinar becoming a Sliver, though what drives me nuts is how can he ascend off a Splinter (Stormfather), when Vin ascended she manipulated the mists and became Preservation. But now that Honor is dead, i don’t think Dalinar will fulfill his shoes so to speak. One theory im reading is that Dalinar has become a ‘demi-shard’ (Unity), he has already been trying to fulfill his shardic intent for a while (uniting). It wouldn’t be farfetched to assume that he will try to unite the shards and restore Adonalsium.
Also, Tanavast has been telling him to unite them since book 1, thought that was already established?
I’m most interested in Part 2 epigraphs, the general consensus seems to be that letter 1=Endowment (Edgli), Letter 2=Autonomy (Bavadin), Letter 3=Harmony (Sazed). A recent WoB says that 3 are all shards that we know.
Im bummed that we didnt see the 17th shard this time
Also, i don’t want to spoil Arcanum for you, but if you want to know about the humans pre-roshar, i think you should read it, lots of tidbits.
Plus there are some short stories there that tie in to the Cosmere

Re: The Official Book Thread
"Picture of Dorian Gray"
The first book I've read in English (I don't read a lot) and I loved it. This book is phenomenal. In an extravagant manner depicts the clash between two worlds and the internal transformation of the main character (the impact of cynicism and corruption on an inexperienced and gullible character). Rottenness and beauty at the same time.
Simply amazing.

Re: The Official Book Thread
Won't really impact anything, but a lot of Sanderson's books belong to the same universe (called "Cosmere"), and there are often cameos throughout the series. Each world in the Cosmere has it's unique magic system and most are not aware of the other worlds, but there are a few characters that jump between the worlds and try to influence events elsewhere.
At this stage, it won't affect your enjoyment or ability to get what's going on at all, it's more of a "oh that's actually X person, that's neat" if you catch them. At least until book 3, where some off-world characters become more important. Specifically 2 of them from Warbreaker. So if you finish SA and want to know more about those 2, that's a natural place to follow up with.

Definitely want to know as much as I can about the world, I‘m hoping this can be somewhat of a replacement for ASOIAF.
Thanks for letting me know.

RIP Philip Roth.
As it happens, I just recently for the first time had a streak of reading a few of his books in a row, finished his alternate-history-meets-childhood-memories The Plot Against America just a few days ago. Fantastic book, fantastic writer.

I somehow missed this
You don't have to follow a reading order for The Cosmere, but just don't look up stuff on google as it is very spoilery. If yoou're starting with Stormlight, i'd go:
Way Of Kings
Warbreaker
Words of Radiance
Edgedancer (Short story, important info)
Oathbringer
Mistborn (all the books in order)
Elantris
Arcanum Unbounded
White Sand (Both Volumes)
I genuinely hope you get back to reading the whole thing, its a fantastic series

Re: The Official Book Thread
Returned to the Malazan series for the first time in like 6 years. @M99
funnily enough it was from the co-author, the far inferior Ian Cameron Esslemont.
Randomly decided to pick it up, mostly out of disbelief. I saw a lot of people that rightfully were underwhelemd by his previous books in the Malazan universe, praise his new prequel series based on the forming of the Malazan Empire, right from the beggining, even saying that the first two books were better than some of the mainline series.
Read the first one, Dancer's Lament. Found that to be true. It wasn't amazing, but it was definitely enjoyable and by far his best book, I liked it better than a couple of the later mainline entries. Check it out sometime if you haven't already and even have a little interest in Malazan nowadays.

Re: The Official Book Thread
You just jumped in? Should’ve refreshed your memory first
Im just finishing up The Black Company right now, not sure if you’ve heard of it but this is what Eriksen was inspired from. Its the same as Malazan, except the writing is much better i think, the first book is 2 quid on kindle i believe
I might return and finish up Malazan at a later date, but as i said before i stopped at book 8, the later books get very stale, too bogged down, especially with Tehol and Bugg, despite their amuzing relationship

Re: The Official Book Thread
Yeah, I know about The Black Company since it inspired Malazan's authors so heavily. Always planned to get around to it but I already have a backlog of stuff I keep wanting to read but kept putting on hold for manga lel.
The last few books of Malazan weren't all that great anyway tbh. I still retained a good knowledge of Malazan since I have a few online friends that are into it and discuss it every now and then. I think being away for years was actually good since I needed a break from it and I always compared the co-author to Eriksen reading them around the same time and that was unfair because he was a hugely inferior writer by every metric.
I'm gonna read The First Law series after I finish up the follow up to Dancer's Lament. Always sounded appealing to me and I think it has a decent rep.
