Keane was the 2nd best midfielder of the PL era without a doubt.

Raj bro, you really need a proper re-education of Roy Keane's career. The man was a rather complete midfielder, a player, ironically, Man Utd could really do with right now.

From 2002 onwards.....which is when I watched him......all the players I mentioned were better than him.

Keane was not better than Gerrard or Viera..........and the reason I wrote that idiotic response was simple..........if he chooses to call Keane better than Matthaus(A 38 year old Matthaus was better than a peak Keane)......which he basically did by calling him the best midfielder of his generation........then I can say that a peak Essien was better............both statements are the same level of ridiculous.

Keane wasn't part of Matthaus' generation though.

Roy Keane, with the possible expection of Patrick Vieira, was the most dominant midfield player in the world from 1995-2002. He was a better player than Gerrard. He was a better player than Mackelele. And if he was playing how he would be so far ahead of the pack that even the trolls couldn't but give him his due

Matthaus played sweeper for Bayern if I recall. The midfield that UCL year mostly consisted of Jen Jeremies (dork), Scholl, Tarnat and Mario Basler...

Just thought I'd mention another guy who was better than Keane during the 90's.... Effenberg.

Calling Keane the best midfielder of his generation is the most outrageous thing anyone has said in this thread.

Saying that he was better than both Gerrard and Makalele is a close second.

Keane was never at any point the best midfielder in the world......how exactly he manges to be the best of his generation is beyond me.

We all do that sometimes. Moreover you dont expect everyone to have first class knowledge of every single player, so most people will pass their judgement based on the knowledge they have, say for example I'm of the opinion that Clarence Seedorf was a better player than Viera and Roy keane.

I reckon you are passing your judgement based on EPL, if you had said Roy Keane was the best Midfield of his Generation in EPL, I might agree with that.
