Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
Now the Sun are reporting Arsenal want to steal him away from us.
Jeez.

No one can be guaranteed a spot, that's just crazy.
If they persist with that attitude, I doubt Arsenal would take him on either

The Times are reporting that we're threatening to Malouda Solanke by sending him back to our youth squads unless he drops his wage demands

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
He's at one of the prominent clubs of Europe, training alongside world class international players, likely already being paid more a week to kick around a ball for a few hours a day than most people with real jobs make in a year, and his response to that is that he wants more? After doing nothing in the game to justify that kind of demand or warrant that kind of money in the first place? Lol. In many ways it's the club's own fault. When you set a precedent of paying a youth player an obscene amount of money, you can't exactly be surprised when others see it and attempt to follow suit. But unless Manchester City want to sign him for their youth ranks (which in fairness I wouldn't put past them), whom exactly does he think he's going to find to pay him that 50 grand a week?
Pipe dream by the kid.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
This is a fantastic read and fully expresses my thoughts (and a lot more) concerning our youth system.

John Swift has rejected Chelsea's contract offer and instead joined Reading on a 3 year deal. Chelsea will get a small compensation as he is under 24.

For the best. Lad was going nowhere with us (which is no slight on him), and will have a better future at a place like Reading.

Indeed. I can see him having a Cork-like career, a few years in the championship before establishing himself at a mid table prem team.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
Conte wrote:"We have many young players and all are working very hard. I'm happy about that."
"Ruben is young with great potential. I like him a lot in the position of striker. He can improve a lot because he has great potential, good technique, good personality and he is good one v one. It's normal he can improve and normal too that Chalobah and Aina can improve. Aina is showing the Academy is a good school and it is very important for the club. If I can count on these players it's a new source for me."
"In the future I want to see other very young players like [Tammy] Abraham and [Dominic] Solanke. I am very happy to have young players to work with, and that I can improve and permit to become Chelsea first team players, not young players."
"Before the game I asked my players that after a week of strong work, physically and tactically, I wanted to see the improvement in our idea of football. I received a good answer. I know we can improve, I know we must improve, but we are at the beginning of the season. We are working very hard. Every day we have two very hard training sessions."
"I saw a lot of good things today and also situations we can improve. That's normal. It was nice to win, it's important to have this habit for everyone's mentality despite many players being very tired after the training sessions. I'm also happy because I saw a good attitude."

Our youth players were particularly good today, Aina was the only outfield player to play 90 minutes, while RLC, Traore and Chalobah all scored. A very good showing.

The Telegraph are reporting that We've open up talks with Solanke over a new contract, and, should Remy leave and we fail to sign a replacement, Solanke will remain with us as 3rd choice CF.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
Solanke still hasn't agreed to a new deal and is likely to leave for either Liverpool or Celtic for a tribunal fee of 8m pounds.
Real shame it's come to this, he's been with us since he was 8 and could have made it with us if he put his head down like Tammy has.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
Upsetting but the club have every right to lay down a marker, and would be crazy not to. There's a line in the sand and no young player's going to be permitted to cross it regardless of his promise or quality. Bend for one lad and suddenly the entire academy is going to be pounding on the boardroom door angling for paydays.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
The club are definitely in the right, here.
Shame that Solanke has done what he has, but we've stalled his development and he has fallen behind Tammy and Traore in the youth CF pecking order. So, at the end of the day, it's not a massive loss.

Re: Chelsea Youth & Reserves thread
Giving in to him would be a risky precedent to set, and doubly ludicrous given he's done next to nothing to even come close to warranting the kind of money he's fishing for. Let him go.
