David "El Guaje" Villa Villa

David Villa Sánchez
Forward
Birthplace: Tuilla, Langreo
DOB: 1981/12/03
Weight: 69 kg
Height: 175cm

I'm a RM fan and, of course, glad Barca lost, however, the season is a LONG way from over. It does mean that Barca can't afford to lose, on 12/10/11.

That is somethign which I want to ask of Barca fans: What has happened to David Villa? I remmeebr him being a gal score only one lever behinf Ronald0/Messi but now, he seems more like a "prop". What is his role on the team? I'm not sure that he fits in on a team where Messi to be relied on, excessively, to score.

Insights from people who watch the games more closely than me, wil be appreciated.

You can say that his finishing is awful but isn't everyone just 'missing'. Im sure we want to score goals but sometimes I think players like Messi, Sanchez, Pedro and Villa just miss purposely to create 'tension'. Just a theory but shouldn't the coach practise finishing more than ever than anything else as it is the only way of winning a game? He plays better at centre striker and well we can't have that happening, can we now...

Thanks for the input, folks!

I will try to "monitor" Villa for a bit!
My opinion, with limited criteria to work with, is that he's "too old" or can't play with such a big shadow ( Messi's ), or, I suppose, a combo!

Cuenca will replace Villa, no doubt about that. He is much quicker, young, good dribbling skills plus I reckon he is the only one who has finshed well out of all the strikers (apart from Messi), 1 out of 1. Sell Villa if neccessary or make him work hard for his position because Isaac is shining every single game he plays. Im expecting he will be promoted with the likes of Montoya, Barta and Dos Santos.

... I have compete faith in both Villa and Pedro. They need to improve, its obvious, but they haven't lost their ability overnight. They are just out of form.

Cuenca doesn't come anywhere near them, and has a long way to go to show whether he should even stay in the squad. Right now I'd much prefer to purchase someone like Hulk and work on Deulofeu, Rafinha and Dongou who are more promising.

On the topic of Villa: He hasn't been absolute sh*t. His finishing has been awful pretty much all season, but that aside he has played good games and bad ones. He seems to score on streaks so it's just a matter of waiting for him to score for him to get started again, nothing to worry about too much imho.

He's clearly not having the best of times, but you can't doubt his quality, you don't become bad player overnight, he is a big game player and I believe he'll step up to the plate sooner rather than later.

And I'm definitely against selling David Villa, unless It is big money ( 45+ money ) he's very different to the all attackers we have, he is proven goalscorer and for me he's crucial part of the team.

He'll get back to form.

45+???? That is a nice dream. Anyways, he will come back, and if not, luckily Pedro and Sanchez will. Worst case, we have to count on Cuenca or Fabregas to fit in more quickly so him or Iniesta play on wings.

Cuenca? LOL what has he done to start over Villa?

Villa has been our best forward apart from Messi. Unlike Pedro, Villa has atleast scored some goals.
He is doing just fine, the only part that is missing is that the goals should come more regularly.

Despite all the recent Villa criticism he has started this season better than last and statistically better than most of his seasons at Valencia...

In my opinion his form has been under the microscope more simply because we haven't been good overall for the bulk of this season. Villa started really well I thought, and then despite the goals drying up he has had few horrid games. All strikers have dips in form. Villa will be fine.

Just to remind you...

There is nobody in Barca, not even Messi, who's more dangerous than Villa cutting in from the corner of the box.

He simple has to step up his finishing, especially one on one.
For starters he can practice against Valdes in training who is the best one on one keeper in the world.

Im really surprised at how fast Villa have dipped and lost importance to the team and to the fans. He was our saviour after the Ibra saga and always gives his best every game for us. He has helped win us to many tophies since his arrival, it saddens me to read some of this...

It also reminds me a bit of Henry at Barca though, had a great season, but the next, Guardiola used him less and he dipped very quickly and was sold to the USA, I was shocked and couldnt understand the speed of his decline. I really hope Villa doesnt follow his steps....but then, Guardiola have proved he is right always and whenever he chooses to do wont surprise me anymore I guess, as he knows what is best for the team....

Still, I would like to say Villa if he can get back to his top form, is a class player, and I rated him the best striker in the world, b4 he moved to the left, in which he shined as well. Its just that Barca's game has evolved in such a short time that some others may fit more into the roles than him...but u never know, if he stays consistent, he will play a role still!

I still have total faith in both Pedro and Villa, who are the people that have lost faith in either of them? They have a very important role for us in the second half of the season with their experiance and past with the club. BarcaLearning, you'll find that both players are still fan favorites. Take a back seat, son.

Well, you can't say he is not important to the team as he was before because of a one single game, this was the first big game which Villa didn't start.

Mascherano ( who is our best defender this season ) also didn't play that game at all so is he not important to the team as well ?

Villa is still a quality striker and I have a lot of faith in him, he'll play a lot, It is just that Pep is using a lot of rotation this season with the addition of Cecs and Alexis.

David Villa will play a lot of games, he'll be fine.

It happens. Striker is always the most 'fluctuating' role.

I don't know if he'll ever hit his 'prime' level again, but he certainly will improve form. He's a +20 goals a season striker, at least.
