Re: Is Italy Doomed?
No one can afford to lose italy, there is no one arguing that the world is going to let italy fail.
However most believe that european politics is too slow to react, this is especially complicated when there are many different european parties. If europe let greece just sit there for more than two years (and it still isnt solved), any reaction close to that will main an italian default.
i do not see china or the states bailing out italy mainly because the leaders dont have the political capital , also because I dont see the italian politicians swalowing it.

Refer to Spain
Spain has been trying pretty hard, from what I heard, cutting budgets etc...Italy not so much, the potential is surely there, the question is that are the citizens wearing to bear with the suffering for now? Do the incoming politicians dare to take that bitter pill?

If it comes down to it, I doubt the Italian politicians have any choice although I personally doubt China or the US will bail them out

Fail on my part.
Well, spaguetti then. Pizzas, cappuccinos. Can't go wrong there.

Pasta was introduced to southern Italy in the 8th Century by the Arab invasion.
Pizza? I dunno, flat bread with toppings is hardly an Italian concoction. It long existed in the Byzantine, Persian and Greek empires.

Re: Is Italy Doomed?
We Italians modified the food to what it is today. We've just made it better.
It's like England with Football. They invented the modern game(NOT THE HISTORIC ONES AS THERE HAVE BEEN MANY) and now everyone plays it. They just modified it.

Re: Is Italy Doomed?
meh... pasta and pizza are so boring and overrated.
On topic, Merkozy have been discussing the possibility of a deeper economic integration which includes tax and fiscal policy. If this happens, then we will see things returning to normal.

Too bad you have no knowledge of pizza and pasta, and good God, if you say it is so...it must be. Not like the whole world disagrees or anything.

Re: Is Italy Doomed?
its both a liquidity problem AND a solvency problem in italy.
The austerity plans will surely help italy, but somehow with a decade long euro low growth rate and the stubbornness of the ECB I feel like there is a big chance that we will see deflation in italy.
That would get ugly.

Well, Arabic cuisine is really rich and diverse. If you don't like pasta you could try something else.

Well, until you said so, i did not know pasta is Arabic.
Anyway, i love the Arabic food i had when i was in UAE. Shawarmas, Kebabs, hummus etc etc. That was great and i still try to have them once in a while in India!

Arabic, Indian and Chinese are my favorite foods.
They also have the most profound culinary impact on humanity. Pretty much all other cuisines copied them one way or the other...
