Emerson Leao: Carlos Tevez is worth €18.5m as a player, not as a man
Sao Paulo coach Emerson Leao has labelled Manchester City outcast Carlos Tevez as a troublesome player.
The
Argentina international has been linked with a return to Corinthians
after being frozen out of City's squad for allegedly refusing to come on
as a substitute during the Champions League game against Bayern Munich
on September 27.
Leao endured a frosty relationship with Tevez
during his time at the helm of Corinthians, with the striker blaming
his exit from the club on the 62-year-old.
Questioned if Tevez was worth the €18.5 million Corinthians are reportedly ready to pay, Leao told TV Gazeta: "As an athlete, yes. As a man, no.
"As
a player, any coach would approve spending that sum for him. But he has
been making it hard for coaches to want him. It has happened at several
clubs, including Corinthians."
The Brazilian coach rejected suggestions that he pushed Tevez out of Corinthians in 2006.
"Do
not put responsibility for that on my shoulders," he added. "Long
before I arrived at Corinthians, it was said that Tevez wanted to be
sold.
"I was not the one who brought anything new about that player."
