G.Rossi out for 6 months. Who will replace him for Italy?
It's been posted in the general section and I have seen it on some websites.
The reason I re-post it on this section is because this may mean that Matri Will be in the national team. The 6 months recovery period is also a minimum. Meaning Italy will probably be needing a replacement for the Euros.
However, Pazzini and Balloteli will be competition.
Thoughts?

I thought the coach was trying to move on from the older generation?
Gio, Balo I can see.
Osvaldo, not that likely the way Roma are performing at the moment.
Sure, Di Natale and Miccoli are great players but it's not a good move for the future.

Prandelli said he might have no choice to call up Di Natale a few days ago...

Cassano - Balotelli partnership should do the trick...
Add Pazzini as the third option.
And Giovinco as a replacement for Cassano.
No problem...

Hopefully Matri can make a good case for himself then.
Di Natale is brilliant but Matri has age on his side I guess.

As a support striker? No.
There are two spots for Prima Puntas and three for Support.
I would think...
Cassano, Giovinco, Balotelli
Pazzini and Matri

Only thing is that Cassano Pazzini is tried and tested

he did last season and yet Pazzini was the first choice and to be honest I agree with Prandelli. Matri is not a PURE prima Punta while Pazzini is.

Re: G.Rossi out for 6 months. Who will replace him for Italy?
We play a 4-3-1-2 so we can go many different ways:
Marchisio...Pirlo...De Rossi
Giovinco
Pazzini...Balotelli
Marchisio...Pirlo...De Rossi
Cassano
Balotelli...Giovinco
Etc., etc. We need six forwards so those six forwards without Rossi would most likely be Balotelli, Giovinco, Pazzini, Cassano, Matri and Di Natale. I'm sure Di Natale wouldn't play unless we have several injuries.

Although it is realistic Pino, niether Cassano or Giovinco will be depended on as a Trequartista. Both will be used as support strikers.

You mean we will have to rely on Montolivo/Aquilani to be our trequartistas??

Why is Quagliarella not being mentioned here?
Considering the fact that he is a comfortably better player than Matri.

We are talking about the Euro's aren't we?
Surely he will be playing for Juve by then and the probability is he will outshine Matri considering his superiority in comparison to him.

Ideally, he would be back by then.
The way things are going, no.
I wouldn't say he's miles ahead of Matri. He's a bit more complete.
I don't mention him because he seems to be our 4th choice striker. Conte even played Del Piero as a lone striker rather than give Quags a game...

Who said miles? I simply said he is comfortably better due to the fact the general consensus is that he is and there is little way to deny it.
I really don't see the decision behind some of Conte's moves as after Vucinic, Quagliarella is simply the best CF you guys have.
I do hope Conte plays him for the sake of Italia as this is a responsibility he should acknowledge.

I think it's obvious Balotelli
And pazzini will be first choice sub and someone else will never play as sub.

Matri is playing at a top level right now, Quags has barely played al all and is coming off of major knee surgery. So how do you figure that Quags will automatically outshine Matri IF he ever gets to see the playing field again? And what about if Juve sell him in January to a mid table team, what do you think his chances are of making La Nazionale if that happened?

Quagliarella has proven himself by his superb performances in his brief stint for Juve as it was better then what Matri has done so far.
I calculated probability and did not declare it.
Why would he not see the playing field again? I am failing to understand why Conte is not playing him but to be fair, this can be attributed to the reasoning that Conte might want to take it steady with Quags due to multiple factors.
I cannot predict what his performances will be like on his return but we can expect a man of his quality to make a comeback considering his mental strength and qualities under pressure as this transcends.
Placing him in a mid-table club would not make a difference as Rossi, Maggio, Monty, etc are all playing for mid-table clubs as also this should not effect Prandelli's reasoning.

Quags has played on 9 different teams in the last 11 years, has never scored more than 13 goals in one year in Serie A and he's comfortably better than Matri, a player who scored 20 goals last year, 7 more than Quags ever scored in one year, and is currently tied for 7th place in Serie A scoring with 4 goals??
Who has ever stated that Quags is so much of a better player than Matri?? I have never recalled anyone in Italy ever saying this. Right now Matri is on form and should be recalled to the National team, especially with the injury to Rossi. This is a given I am sure. Howeveer, unless Quags miraculously starts to play every game and scores 15 goals this year, I highly doubt he will ever play in Euro 2012.

I'm sorry, but you don't make the national team of Italy by having one great half season in your career. The fact is Quags has bounced around from team to team for the laast 11 years. This is a fact. He has never scored more than 13 goals in in one year, that is a fact. Matri on the other hand played 4 full seasons for Cagliari and every season he played much better and progressed, to the point where the big teams were calling for him and Juve ultimately bought him for a higher price than what they paid for Quags. And now after a superb season last year he is proving his worth again this year and is on pace for another 20 goal season.
The chances of Quags ever overtaking Matri as our starting CF this year are slim and none, and I think slim is out of the question right now...
