Report: New Xbox to Launch in 2013
While previous rumors hinted at a 2012 reveal for the next Xbox, new reports indicate that it may be held off until 2013. Develop has heard from multiple industry sources, including chip manufacturers and middleware firms, that the console's reveal will come at E3 2013, with a late 2013 launch to follow.
The launch would likely be simultaneous for all territories, but that doesn't necessarily rule out a 2014 release in some countries. The initial launch is expected to come by the 2013 holiday season, but few analysts expect it to come any earlier than that.
Develop also reports on several other rumors that lend credibility to an upcoming console launch. Namely that Lionhead Studios is currently working on a project known internally as Fable Next, which is expected to launch on a new console. Another source reports that EA has rudimentary next-generation console technology already (which EA has denied).
For now, all of these are rumors, and Microsoft has declined to comment on any of them. If a new console does launch in late 2013, it would coincide with the predicted 2014 release Unreal Engine 4

Always trying to release their products before Sony, because their afraid of the competition, that as always been Microsoft's downfall.

The new Xbox should come with replaceable a graphics card. Then Xbox could actually compete with PC for epic graphics

Re: Report: New Xbox to Launch in 2013
Mate, believe me when i say, no console could ever compete with a PC when it comes to graphics. Everyday there are new and more powerful PC's being made, with more powerful graphics cards being made alongside them. The technology is constantly improving, at such a rate that the Xbox or PS3 can not.
Even if you could replace graphic cards, there would soon come a point where the graphics cards would be too powerful for consoles to be able to handle, since unlike consoles newer and more powerful graphic cards are being made all the time.
It would be pointless for them to do that basically.

Then just have an Xbox where you can replace the hardware to improve its performance

With most console owners being between 10-18, few, it any, could afford to do that, so microsoft would never do that. Plus, their too cheap.

How often do PC gamers upgrade their PCs though lol.. Technically everything after a while becomes outdated right? I understand PCs of today are more powerful than a 5 year old console but how long do they last at "the top"?
These are serious questions by the way lol.. I don't know much about PC gaming

Re: Report: New Xbox to Launch in 2013
I'm not saying you HAVE to update your Xbox but I think the option should be available for those who do have the money
Yeah the new Xbox would be expensive but think about how much money they could make since that's an entirely new area to make profit

Re: Report: New Xbox to Launch in 2013
I am not one to buy new consoles straight away.....
1. they are usually overpriced
2. they have technical issues
3. the catalogue of games at the start is meh
Good news tbh, but i wont be buying it until like a year after release.....

Re: Report: New Xbox to Launch in 2013
ive had a 360 for 3 years and honestly, there are no problems with graphics
i never buy high graphic computers because they are too easily outdated
im thinking of getting a kinect sensor and me and my brother are going to program on it hopefully...
i am actually pretty stoked about this
considering it has lasted the better part of a decade, the engineering design and sheer ability to withstand the test of time, where computers are trying to create 360 like graphics(mostly for almost double the price). they have managed to make a collosus of a system, of course nothing like what the PS1 did.
They have improved the operating system, there is no lag in any of my games(online games with TMO excluded), information is kept secure, i honestly cannot find many complaints(maybe make xbox live online play free)
honestly if Microsoft can apply this sort of operating system to their PCs, tablets and the like, I think they can carve out a niche for themselves

other way around
my 4 year old rig has better hardware specs than a 360 and the games look much better as well... and as for upgrading, i was comfortably running games at highest settings a year ago, only since then i had to tone it down a bit... and it's not like my pc was cutting edge when i bought it either...

Oh I c... How much would it cost to get a Laptop that can play top of the line games of today? Like say BF3 on the highest settings..
Do you just buy a normal one then just get a super video card and a bunch of RAM?

Re: Report: New Xbox to Launch in 2013
The Hardware in consoles is decidedly inferior to PC hardware. For example the GPU in the the 360 is around the equivalent of an ATi X1900 which is was top of line... in 2005. However, due to the architecture of consoles vs the architecture and diversity of PC Hardware console developers can squeeze that much more performance out of the GPU and CPU than PC developers who have to cater to a huge diversity of platforms. This is also why you see games for consoles get better and better looking as developers become more proficient. I didn't imagine that the PS2 had the capability to produce something like Shadow of the Colossus but at the end of its cycle it did
My specs:
Cost me around $700-800 to build (Most expensive components were the GPU@ around $250 equiv and CPU at around $230)
Still runs games maxed out @ 1920x1080 (with the latest scalps being Deux Ex and the Battlefield 3 Beta[w/o DX11 though but there's not $300 worth of difference) although in around 20 minutes my rig will face face its sternest test (apart from Crysis - which (sadly for PC gaming) is still the most demanding game hardware wise)) - Rage.
I've been able to get away with my slightly below top of the line GPU from 3 years ago mostly because nearly every game nowadays is written for console level specs. I was hoping Crysis 2 would prompt me to replace it but it breezed through it easier than Crysis and even the DX11 add-on for PC, released several months late is meh.
Graphics wise gaming is stagnating due to the fact it's cheaper and far more profitable to make a console game. Take Battlefield 3, a game that's supposed to be wtfbbqawesumgraphix.
It can be "maxed out" (Highest in game settings, decent amount of AA/AF [at least 4x/8x]) by the mid-range card of the previous generation of graphics cards.
To give you some perspective, when PC gaming was king, games like Doom 3, Far Cry and Crysis could only be maxed out by the generation of cards that weren't even available yet.

Laptops are usually more expensive, and you cant upgrade them like you can PC's........
Basically when a Laptop becomes obselete you have to buy a new one( unless something changed overnight that iam not aware of)

If you want maximum performance per $ the best way to go is to build your own desktop and have a netbook for portability. There are very few situations where getting a high-performance laptop/a laptop with a dedicated GPU is worth it.
Also - I failed to mention this but making an upgradable console defeats the benefits that consoles have from being a single, unified hardware platform.

Re: Report: New Xbox to Launch in 2013
Yeah, desktops kill everything when it comes to performance.
I like the idea of an upgradable graphics card, actually. Consoles on launch usually get very advanced processors not yet out commercially and it usually takes a while for PC users to be on that level, although with the years the processor will be a bottleneck for future graphics cards.
This means the overall graphics level can improve more than before, and not stagnate as much like we are nowadays, which is a great thing. Not just graphics level, of course, but things such as AI, physics engines etc. can all be improved.
Graphics cards are very cheap nowadays, and even a gaming PC you can get for something near what Phritz mentioned. Much cheaper than the $2000 PCs of the 2000s.

Re: Report: New Xbox to Launch in 2013
it would be way less profitable for microsoft or sony to make their systems upgradable unless they make the graphics cards and such themselves....which they won't do.
besides consoles are basically a crappy computer designed to utilise a controller more than a mouse and keyboard...

Consider this
your 360 atm moment has a 3.2 GHz Xenon processor which was made commercially available(an equivalent) on computers 2 years after the release of xbox
plus XBOXs never crash, never have to upgrade and honestly the graphics for the better part of 3-4 years were better than your average PC

since when? mine crashes regularly playing fifa.
both of the systems xbox and ps3 have faults since their isn't a recall for all the faulty systems the makers released early or atleast a trade in...even the new xbox with the black shiney outter shell crashes regularly for me.
