Re: The Elder Scrolls
You can get a perk that gives you indestructible lockpicks anyway without too much effort. The Skeleton Key doesn't provide that much of a benefit once you get that.

The day I got it I wanted to sell this overrated piece of crap on ebay
The few days later I thought I'd check out some mountain areas
A week later I'm awake late at night increasing my Smithing abilities
My life is over

Re: The Elder Scrolls
1. Make sure to invest in the 3 Mage Armour perks, Atronach perk and 3 Magic Resistance perks in the Alteration tree. Mage armour increases the defensive capabilities of spells lile Oakflesh which increases the armour rating of robes(0). Magic resist saves you from other mages spells, especially lightening spells, as they drain magicka. Atronach absorbs enemy spells, refilling you magicks bar, and is best used with the Atronach Stone, found in Eastmarch. In fact, just get all the perks in the alteration tree except for the expert and master alteration perks(i'll explain why later), you'll know why when you start dying alot.
2. Conjuration is your best friend, summoming atronachs or raising a recenly felled foe could mean the difference between life and dead, destruction can only take you so far so you need a meatsheild to hide behind when your magicka is low. Ice and Storm Atronachs are good for this and their huge bulk can block entire doorways lol. Get a melee follower as well, Mjoll us reccommended.

Re: The Elder Scrolls

You may wanna think about getting bond weapons in and investing in a few perks in The One-handed and Archery tree, most notabaly the ones which increase damage, as they apply to bound weapons too. Also, get the perk whicb increases bound weapon damage, it makes the bound weapons on bar with deadric, especially the bound bow, its OP, plus looks badass.
3. Join the college asap, the range of spells they have is is amazing, but, big point, being a mage is the most expensive playstyle bar none, so you might want to do some exploring first to build up your gold.
4. Restoration is very important, it will save you so many times you will lose count.
5. Destruction is controversial, many people say it sucks, but i say its the players who suck. If your making a character to level 50, choose to focus on 2 elements max, i.e. two of fire, frost and lightening. If you going up to 81, you might want to specialise in them all its up to you. Oh, avoide the spell perks like disintegrate.

They are a massive pain in the arse, you'll know what i mean if you take them. Also, make sure to take destruction dual casting and impact perks, many lulz will n
be had.
6. Illusion....For this tree to be effectivw at high levels you would need to take ever single perk, 13 perks? Its up to you, some are amazing like mass frenzy.
7. Dual, bar destruction, illusion and alteration, dont bother with dual casting perk.
8. Leave the expert and master perks, as by the time you would be powerful to unlock them, you would probably have maxed out enchanting. With enchanting you can put spell reduction enchanments in you gear and cast destruction/restoration(the two mana dependent schools) for zero. This may be game breaking so be careful. I normally just leave it at 75% reduction to avoid becoming a god.
I dont think i have forgotten anything so this should be enough, enjoy being a mage.
P.s. Unless you rping, invest in health lol

Re: The Elder Scrolls
Get your encahnting up really high.
When it's 100 enchant your items with lower mana cost on every item you've.
If done correctly, it will take you 0 mana to cast a spell.

Re: The Elder Scrolls
Having a really difficult time adapting to this play style lol. I'm getting some lost books and the final boss of the quest The Caller is too strong!
I'm heading back to train some more!
Jonathan can you explain your first point? I know about the 3 magic resistance perk in alteration. What else are you referring to?

Re: The Elder Scrolls
Oof, The Caller is a real pain. On my current canon character i never did that misson until i was in my 30's. Also i'm Breton so, 25% magic resist baby!
On my first point on the right side of the tree(your left) theres a perk called Mage Armour with 3 levels, which at its max level, triples the effectiveness of protection spells like Oakflesh, Ironflesh etc which increase your armour rating. The perk only works if your wearing robes with 0 armour rating though, its made for a full mage basically. The armour spells are substitutes for actual armour.
On the atronach perk, unlocking it allows yo to absorb an enemy mages spells, like in Fellglow Keep, you can absorb some of The Callers spellsn which replenishs you own mana, allowing you to keep on casting. Adding the atronach standing stone, the percentage chance of you absorbing enemy spells increases furthur, making you near resistant to mage attacks. Becareful though, if you want to summon atronachs the atronach stone and perk will make it hard for you.

I'm getting more and more adjusted to this mode of play
I helped some college buddies and now I ask them to follow me for harder quests. Despite being a mage, the College quests are much harder compared to the Companions so I'm doing the latter and its really improving my skills
Have you come across any glitch recently? I don't know what combo I used but I had infinite magicka for a very long time until I did a quest that turned me into a werewolf
Any tips on increasing Alteration?

Re: The Elder Scrolls
Information that's been released makes Dawnguard sound like a great add-on.
So far they've confirmed that Dawnguard will add (along with the story and quests) new perk trees for werewolves and vampires, crossbows, new shouts, more silver weapons, dragonbone weapons, and 10 to 20 hours of added gameplay.
It's set to be released on June 26th for Xbox360 users and about a month later for PC and PS3 gamers.

Re: The Elder Scrolls
So my little cousin decides to overwrite my new Mage Style gameplay save file by mistake. There goes all the hours...
Now back to Warrior Style. I'm a Level 42 Nord, double handed. Since the major skills are almost maxed I'm trying to increase Alteration (to get the armor perk) and Enchantment so I can bind something awesome to my Daedric blade
God I sound like a nerd
