Closed betas are unfortunate, but it's an understandable approach to take.

Elder Scrolls Online Empty Re: Elder Scrolls Online

I love the series, but MMORPGs just take too much out of my life to commit to them. I can only see myself playing this game for a couple of months or so, and I don't expect it to be as enjoyable for me personally versus a stand-alone game given that I won't feel like a god in the game. Honestly, that's what I hate the most about MMORPGs: the fact that I can't just go around doing whatever the feck I want and getting away with it. That's what the magic of the Elder Scrolls is all about for me. I'm not saying that MMORPGs aren't spectacular at their best, because I have really enjoyed myself playing them in the past, but I just don't have the time to invest entire summers into that shit anymore and I hate having to grind my character 100% of the time I play because I can only afford to play for a few hours a week and it takes too long to level up and obtain the freedom I would get immediately in a stand-alone game.

Of course, I still expect it to be epic, and this will be helped by them saying that your character won't be useless at a low level, but the number of big MMORPGs around concerns me. One person cannot possibly balance so many of these expansive gaming environments. If this isn't a huge hit, given the amount of investment put into it, it could be bound for failure eventually like so many other MMORPGs these days. I almost feel bad that I want it to fail just so they continue to make stand-alone Elder Scrolls games sooner rather than later Embarassed
