A staggering fact: no EPL club in UCL qf
Can anyone remind me when this last happened? No EPL club in Quarters Finals.
Dont hold your hopes up, Arsenal will get ousted next week as well, so that's that.
Given the league resources, it's quite shocking none of them would go past the round of 16.
Competitiveness has decreased in the league in the past couple of seasons tho, with only 2 clubs truly fighting for the title, and this season United won the league in november or so

Re: A staggering fact: no EPL club in UCL qf
Well it's not very staggering to me. IMO EPL teams build there teams to compete in the EPL which you can understand as that's the league they play in.
I think it's been showing more and more often over the last 5 years or so that the EPL style of football doesn't really work anymore in the CL as no other league plays the fast, physical, don't worry about possession football there used to.
With that being said Man U got jobbed IMO as it looked like SAF had out coached Mou to a degree I haven't seen since the drubbings Pep put on him. They very well could have been the best team in the tournament so it's hard luck for them, but with that being said I didn't like the way they basically quit when the man got sent off. Bur I think it's pretty safe to say Madrid were not going to score 11 on 11.
Chelsea last year rode a wave a good luck and played more like an Italian side with there defense first mentality in all there big games.
The shocking thing to me which backs up my point even more is that 2 years in a row now the EPL champion didn't make it out of the group stage. That is staggering.

Tough to support that argument, really
2012: Chelsea win CL
2011: Man Utd in the final, Spurs and Chelsea in QF (Most QF teams of any country)
2010: ManU and Arsenal in the QF (Tied with France for most QF teams)
2009: 4 teams in the QF (double what the next country had) 3/4 Semifinal teams, ManU in the final
You say its been showing more and more over the last 5 years that EPL style doesn't work in the CL...but overall EPL has probably been the most successful league in that competition over that period of time

EPL style doesn't work in the CL, however I think EPL clubs are doing adequately in the CL.
Chelsea won it last year, Man Utd were in finals etc etc.
Man Utd have been consistent this year in the EPL. Other teams are just inconsistent in the EPL. However that might due to the competitiveness, which is a good thing.

Re: A staggering fact: no EPL club in UCL qf
I dont find it staggering.
I dont see why where a team is located has any baring on how well they will do in the competition. Its an international game.
Chelsea are woeful, Man City have a coach who is pretty bad in CL regardless of which team it is and Arsenal have probably the worst team they had since Wenger.
And Man Utd shouldnt be eliminated, but lets leave that alone as much as possible.
So, yeah, its not so surprising.

Don't find it surprising.
Like franchise said, only united from the PL were good enough to go further and probably would have.
rest of the teams are crap.

Lets cut the crap. The World Cup is the benchmark, not having QF'ists in the CL.This idea of the CL being the barometer was built by the English media when they failed to qualify for Euro 2008.

If the EPL was the "best league in the world",England would dominate football like the USA dominates basketball

It would be hard for Club teams to participate in the World Cup don't you think ?
And CL existed before the 2008 btw.

EPL claim they have dominated the CL.What a load of Bull*****,they've won as many in the past 10 years as Spain and Italy.History doesn't remember the losers, does anyone remember the Quarter Finalists when Milan won back to back European Cups? NNNNNOOOOOOO!
Secondly,Italy and Spain have been hit by an Economic crisis!!
Thirdly,England won a CL in 2008 when Italy didn't have its best representatives in the CL as a result of the Calciopoli rammifications

None of that is relevant to what you said.
And i guess England somehow survived the recession ? Do you even watch the news ?

Re: A staggering fact: no EPL club in UCL qf
Doesn't really have any implications for league quality. In Mou's words, there should be an English team in QF. Had Real and Barca not made it, as it probably should've happened, would that mean that la liga is suddenly sh*t and that the la liga way of playing is not suited for the CL?
Also this ridiculous notion that all EPL clubs play alike needs to stop. This is not the 90s.

English media say EPL is the best, but no one takes them seriously (hopefully).
Its a blip,it happens.
Whats really interesting is that Sky Sports seem to believe Celtic have a better chance of going through than Arsenal.
