flameas wrote:Havent played? Weird.. what do they play then? If linked with Sneijder then Ferguson must consider that formation.. or a 4-3-1-2 which is unlikely, because they have lots of wingers.
4-4-2 with 2 quality wingers on either side and 2 strikers for most of his managerial career.First Beckham and Giggs then Ronaldo and Giggs and now Nani and Valencia. They have also bought Young to now to strengthen their wings.
I dont think they will buy Sneijder but if they do he will probably play as a CM in 4-4-2.Mid u United played without a DM for most of last season.Their midfield is a mess but somehow works.

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
Sneijder might as well stay at Inter then if he's just gonna be used as a CM at United. That's not his natural position. He needs to be played as either an AM or a trequartista to get the best out of him. CM is too far away from the final third. The only way I see him adapting is by converting into a deep-lying playmaker, but he's far too diminutive for that.

As for the goalkeepers, Stekelenburg should sign by the end of the week. Romero is being kept as a backup option in the event that the Stekelenburg deal doesn't go through.

Looks like Burdisso JR has been loaned to Arsenal of the Argentinean league according to goal.

I don't think we even have G. Burdisso anymore. Didn't we loan him for the season with the option to buy him for around 4 million, which we never ended up doing? I think he went back to his Argentine club, who then loaned him out again.

Reports linking us to Nilmar are heating up, but there's nothing so far on a probable transfer fee... and he won't be cheap. Any ideas?

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
Villarreal are said to value him at about 14m, which is quite a fair price considering his exploits last season alongside Rossi.
I honestly think this all depends on what happens with Rossi though....Villarreal are not going to part with their top strikers AND Santi Cazorla all in the same window. Someone's gonna stay.

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
It won't happen but id like to see Pellissier here. I always liked him as a player even though hes getting up there in age now...Could work as a good stop gap for Vucinic short term.
The most attractive offer so far for Vucinic though for me came from Bayern. There hasn't been news on that in a while. Diego Contento + 15 Million? That's robbery. I guess we already have Angel now. I would rather have had Contento though tbh.
I wonder what our signings would have looked like if we hired Pioli?
I'd imagine much of the same team last year, but with shored up defense. Truthfully, I would have been down with that. I liked our forwards for the most part last year, and even though our midfield had a tough year, everyone watching the lupi could see that it was the defense and goal tending that let us down more often then not.
What I'm trying to say, is I think we would have been closer to CL and a possibly a Trophy this year if we would have played it safe with a Paeson managing the team. I never wanted Ranieri to leave...
Honestly our squad last year if you look at it, was quality, besides the defense. Add in say Isla on the Right, Balzaretti/Contento on the left (I would have kept Mexes...). Stekelenburg in net, and buy Montolivo and I would have liked our CL chances.
/end mini rant
Edit: I am happy about the youth movement though if that doesn't sound contradicting....

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
Thought it would be a good idea to bring these articles from Vocegiallorossa over. They're basically just a quick sum-up of everything that's gone on during the day, very useful during the transfer season. I translated today's summary for you guys even though we know most of this already.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
CORPORATE QUESTION - Rumors gathered by Vocegiallorossa.it: tomorrow, Tom DiBenedetto will be in Rome. Therefore there shouldn't be anymore delays for the completion of the takeover, at least for now.
VUCINIC - The Montenegrin is strongly disputed between Juventus and Tottenham. The Bianconeri would be prepared to offer Roma 15 million plus bonuses, while the London club have offered one of David Bentley, Robbie Keane and Nico Kranjcar as compensation to cover for the price tag. Sabatini has not yet responded, although it is known that for him the Vucinic's price tag is between 17 and 18 million. The player, however, seems destined to go and his most likely replacement will be the Brazilian Nilmar, of Villarreal, rumour which has been gaining force throughout the night.
PASTORE - The giallorossi fans' dreams of seeing Pastore join Roma have practically vanished: Today, an agreement was reached between Palermo and Paris Saint Germain and the signatures should arrive within two days. The Paris Club have therefore completed their second coup from Palermo, after securing Sirigu's signature yesterday. The news was somewhat confirmed by president Zamparini: "There are offers ranging from 40 to 50 million, Simonian is working and tomorrow it will be settled. Psg can take anyone, the sheikh has so much potential. I will not tell you the name of his new club, not even under torture. Pastore is worth 50 million euros, he is a champion, he will play abroad. But I would have liked to see him with Roma."
LUCAS - The prospect of seeing the Sao Paolo player in Italy is fading, especially after today declaring: "I'm still young, I'm 18 and I want to stay here as long as possible". The midfielder does not yet feel ready to face European football and in all likelihood will remain another year with Sao Paolo.
PALACIO - Many rumours erupted today regarding the Genoa man. FIFA Agent Erayabakan Aytekin said: "It is clear that wearing a Roma jersey would be an important goal for each player, they are a great team with great players, but I want to emphasize that Rodrigo is fine in Genoa." And again: "There are 50 chances in 100 that the boy can change teams, because, in addition to Inter and Roma, we have also received other offers which Rodrigo is considering." The Genoa sporting director, Capozucca, instead said that he has never been contacted by Roma fore Palacio, "The fact that Sabatini admires Rodrigo goes without question, he wanted to bring him to Palermo. At the moment, however, Roma has never asked for the player." Finally the Genoa president expressed his opinion: "I'll say that for Palacio there is greater interest coming from Inter rather than Roma". This evening, an official press release was made by Roberto De Pietri and Gabriele Giuffrida, representatives of the player, who categorically deny the statements of Aytekin Erayabakan, stating that the agent has no relationship, not even professional, with the player.
GOALKEEPERS - It has been announced that Julio Sergio will move from Rome to Lecce. The player will join the rest of the team on August 2nd, but Stekelenburg arrive in the capital tomorrow to carry out medical examinations at the Gemelli Polyclinic.
ROSI - The player's agent, Davide Lippi, has denied the possibility of his client leaving Roma. The player is in Roma's plans and will try to play for his chances for the starting spot: "I think there is little to say about Aleandro" Lippi said: "Roma took the option to buy him back and I think that means they intend to focus on the boy, as he wants to play for his chances with the giallorossi under the new technical guidance of Luis Enrique. "

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
We shouldn't sell vucinic to juve. Assuming that Milan and inter are fighting for the first 2 places, napoli, roma and juve are going to fight for the last place. We all know that Juve are struggling to find a good ss. They have lost aguero, Rossi nd Tevez. Why should we strengthen our direct rival ? Sell Vucinic to either Inter or sell him abroad and let Juve buy a WC striker like Peter Crouch who is on sale ;-)

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
Well we've done that before. We gave Inter Chivu and Mancini when they were at their best....we indirectly gave Aquilani to Juve and now we've given Mexes to Milan....we've basically done business with all of our rivals...
Vucinic to Juve would be no different. I tend to agree though, Spurs would be the preference for me...wouldn't mind having Kranjcar...Bentley and Keane in a Roma shirt is laughable though.

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
Mac that was another story. Then serie a had 4 Ucl spot and all those teams were far better than us. Also we had no Napoli on our back (though the viola was but you shouldn't compare Napoli with the pathetic Viola)...we have a new owner, new coach, new aspirations- so why not new objectives? Juve aren't better than Roma IMHO.

I totally agree that we should have new objective and that Juve are not better than us.
I'm just stating that this is business as usual in Serie A and it's gonna take a lot more than a rich American to change that.

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
Im guessing its going to be Vuci out, Nilmar in. I find it a bit strange that everyone we are linked with seems to be attacking players. I know from the sounds of it our management is happy with what we have at the back, but I dont really understand why. Were going to need either Crescenzi or Rosi to break out at RB this year(I think Crescenzi can) because I dont trust Cassetti to hold down that spot.

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
Enrique seems to fancy Cicinho too as a wing-back, but I've never been convinced by him defensively.
Totally agree on Crescenzi. I will be utterly disappointed if we loan him out before the season starts.
There's also the young U-20 France defender Loic Nego, that we're picking up on a free from Nantes. He'll be at the U-20 WC, but it remains to be seen whether he'll be in Enrique's plans...it looks quite doubtful for him.

Thats why I think its a problem when our choices are between Cicinho and Cassetti. From what ive seen from Crescenzi in the past and recently at that Toulon tournament I think hes better than both of them already. Hes faster, and hes comfortable on the right or the left. Yea I heard about Loic Nego but honestly I know nothing about him. The U-20 should be good to keep an eye on him and Lamela, I think Lamela will kill it.

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
At the end of last season I thought our main focus would be on getting a new RB, someone like Isla for example, great in attack, solid in defence and very versatile.. It has being a problem for us over the past few seasons and hasn't being addressed. But Enrique decided to call back Cicinho which is not a great move imo relying on him as our starting RB ,I don't think he even got a look in at Villarreal when he was on loan there...Alright as a backup though..

Villareal's sporting director has said that Cazorla is the last player they'll sell. It'll be tough to get to Nilmar.

Leonardo 'great interest' for Borriello
Leonardo’s Paris Saint-Germain is showing “great interest” in Roma striker Marco Borriello, said his agent.
The former Milan and Inter Coach is busy reconstructing PSG as their new director and has already signed Salvatore Sirigu from Palermo, while Javier Pastore could follow.
“Although right now there is nothing precise to discuss, I know Leonardo is showing great interest in Borriello, as he had him at Milan,” agent Tiberio Cavalleri told Sky Sport Italia.
“Borriello is also happy at Roma, but certainly an experience abroad, especially in Paris, is attractive for everyone.”

Easy there, we already sold half of our attack lol. Actually Enrique seems to like trying Totti and Borriello out together, something which had mixed results last seasons. He could be useful, especially since Bojan and Lamela aren't the physically strongest strikers around.

Exactly you said it we already sold most of our attack so I don't see why all of sudden we should hang on to this clown..Sell him for 10 million to PSG and buy a winger or striker who can play on the right wing...Taddei and Borriello just don't cut it for that position..We have to do better ...We can do better ...

Re: AS Roma Transfer Rumours
Already we're down to Totti, Lamela, Bojan and Borriello. We're going to be playing with 3 attackers, so we'll need at least 3 good backups, or 2 good backups and a youngster. We can't go out an sell Borriello now and look for other players to buy for those positions. Maybe next year, fine, but now we have to concentrate on sealing the deal for Stekelenburg, getting a quality centerback and even a midfielder (Simplicio is leaving by the looks of it, he wants to stay but he's not part of our plans unfortunately).
We already got Heinze, Nego, Angel, Lamela, Bojan and Stekelenburg (if all goes well) and we're not done just yet. We knew we weren't going to destroy the team and start again, we have to choose our moves wisely.

Borriello won't fit into the system trust me man he can't play on the right not a left foot player on the right it won't work in Serie A esp borriello thats not his natural position ...And can we really afford to have such a player on high wages sitting on the bench I don't think so ..
Your on about destroying the teams chemistry well if you ask me it has already being destroyed Mirko Mexes and Menez gone .So losing Borriello will hardly make it any worse...

Well Enrique sees something there so I'm ready to give him the benefit of the doubt, and we need at least one physical striker. And yes we've lost a few good players, but that doesn't mean we have to continue dismantling the team. He's replaceable, but that doesn't mean that we should get rid of him and continue making major changes. We've lost Mexes, Menez, Vucinic, Sergio and a bit of the deadwood. I'd like it to stop there with the outgoing transfers, unless of course we receive a bid for Cicinho, Brighi or Rosi, because I don't think they have a spot on the team anymore unlike Borriello who still has a role to fill.
