Pirlo
He is the best midfielder of our generation after Riquelme. Absolutely word class, he won countless games for AC Milan in the league and CL, decided the semi final against Germany in WC, halted Zidane's France in the final. He is an absolute gem of a player. His skills and influence on the game are so great I have no words to completely describe them. Turning with the ball under pressure, tactical brain, total range of vision in long and short passing, creativity, freekicks, controlling the flow of a game, stepping up when it matters. Last but not least, he is a good looking lad.

Riquelme is underrated, he was a wc player, playing for weak teams. Absolute beast for NT, not Pirlo/Xavi though

Re: Pirlo
I gotta say, having followed Pirlo all year, he is not far from the same old Pirlo right now. Every team having him gets really depended on him though, so lets hope he does not get injured.

Re: Pirlo
Kids don't know about greats. They see Xavi at the core of Barca and think he could do the same for any team. Outside of Barca what does he offer beside controlling the flow and passing?zizzle wrote:agree with the OP, especially with the riquelme part
Even funnier, just because Riquelme didn't play for top tiers all his life he isn't another player. He was Zidane level.
Riquelme could do anything Xavi can do and better. Even in Barca system, Riquelme would be overwhelming.

Re: Pirlo

Allegri could not utilize Pirlo. He would only play him as LCM in his rigid system. How can Pirlo dictate when there are no players making forward runs? He's got an anchor in the middle and a ball winner to his right and no natural attacking midfielder and no forwards who are willing to work off the ball. Pirlo will always play at a certain level, because he was never a fast player. He is a technical player with an incredible footballing brain. If you let him drop off and receive the ball, he can hurt you from 50 yards out.

Players like Pirlo don't age fast because their brains are their most prized possessions.

Re: Pirlo
I agree. He is the 2nd best MF in the last 20 years after Scholes. Best CM in the world atm bar none.

Re: Pirlo
Pirlo could quite obviously play in Xavi's position at Barca. Xavi just needs to sit in midfield and pass the ball around while the opposition stare at the ball. Xavi's passing is restricted due to the system he plays in (pass short then go for the perfect ball when the opportunity arises). He is still an accurate long range passer. Pirlo can make space for himself and is consistently completing overly ambitious long range passes. How is he not better than Xavi? I guess we'll never know until Xavi plays for a different team. but he won't do that...

Scholes in the Pirlo tribute thread is like mentioning Jason Statham at Life Achievement Award even dedicated to Robert De Niro.
