who was better at prime?
Seedorf vs Lampard
Both played kind of same position though seedorf was a pure 10 in his starting days.
Even if you think they are not similar, you can rate them with their effect to respective teams.

So you're basing this on the effect the player has on his team right?
So how is Seedorf by far better than Lampard in that respect?

Goal-legacy forum- A place where you can make any biased claim, without backing the claim.
Would love to hear someone backup the claim that Seedorf was better.

Re: Seedorf vs Lampard
FFS, Seedorf has won 4 CL's in three different teams. This guy is the Ibra of Champions League.
Now that I think of it, he's actually underrated IMO.
Frank Lampard's amazing, but just a notch below Seedorf.
Both legends in their respective rights.

Re: Seedorf vs Lampard
I think Seedorf is a better player than Lampard in every other aspect except that Lampard was a prolific Goalscorer.
Ofcourse both were great at Long-rangers but it can hardly be used as a factor to compare both of them.
Seedorf has also achieved a unique piece of history by becoming the only player to win Champions league with three different clubs ,he has also won far more Trophies although both of them have had relatively underwhelming National Team careers in contrast to their highly decorated club careers.
Well in terms of Personal accolades Lampard came close to winning the then Europe's prized award that is the Ballon D'OR and he also came second In FIFA World Player for the year 2005 behind the legendary Ronaldinho.
Its a shame that a player like Seedorf wasnt even in the top 3 in the ballon d'or list even once in his highly famed career.
Having said that Seedorf for me is definitely above Lampard but not by a considerable distance by any stretch of imagination.
As kevacious said, both legends in their own rights.

Re: Seedorf vs Lampard
For me it's Lampard hands down he is one of the greatest all time goal scoring midfielders ever. You would only be able to name very few midfielders that have scored as many goals as consistently as he has.
175 goals and counting for us from midfield (215 total in his career), unbelievable. Also the second highest assist provider in the Premier League.
But then again I'm just being biased because Seedorf was yet another top, top class midfielder in his prime years. Anyways I think this comparison is pretty pointless because they both had completely different roles for their teams and therefore you can't say one is better than the other, and at the same time both performed exceptionally in those roles.
But then you have *bleep*'s like the author of the OP who don't rate Lampard and say he won't make it into the all time 1000 list LOL. It's pretty obvious that they never watched him except in internationals with sucky England (where he's played out of position) and only take the fact that he never won the CL (even though he scored in the Final) into account (while you have the likes of O'Shea who has won the CL and therefore he must be better than anyone who hasn't ), while completely ignoring his record as a midfielder.
It was also pretty unfortunate that he had to play in an era for us where we were in the middle of becoming big and having players go in and out with Chelsea's reputation as a football club down low (obviously why the English media doesn't rave all over him like they do with Scholes), but then again that shows that even though we had all those changes since he came in 2001, he still has been good enough to score 20+goals for us for 6 seasons continuously.

Re: Seedorf vs Lampard
Seedorf
Easily
He has the individual and club awards to back his case
Granted, Lampard wins in terms of goalscoring but we're talking midfielders here, not forwards

This thread doesn't have point. Altough Lampard is good player, great by English standards, he is nowhere near Seedorf.

Re: Seedorf vs Lampard
Seedorf... no bias or anything.
The guy was so much more complete...
At his prime he was apowerhouse.
I remember Netherlands with Seedorf, Davids, Bergkamp and Overmars and my head explodes

Re: Seedorf vs Lampard
Seedorf is better in prime, though Lampard's ability to move the ball with pace and be of support to his team is great making him not far behind.

Michael Carrick has won 4 Pl titles.
So Carrick> Steven Gerrard
can anyone say that Seedorf was the best player, second best, or even third best player on any of those CL wining sides?
I can't.

That's exactly what makes Lampard great

FFS stop making it sound like Lampard was just great based on English standards but just good based on whatever other standards. Lampard was an unique midfielder, different to Seedorf which is why I don't like this comparison, as it's hard to name other midfielders (even if they have the advantage of having those techniques that the English lack) who can score so many goals as he can.

Re: Seedorf vs Lampard
Seedorf was already winning Champions league titles when lamps was still in playing for the reserves.
Seedorf far exceeds Lamps in terms of talent and prestige. But like some have said they are legends in their own respects , but Seedorf was truly world class , and proved it by winning in many leagues and teams.
