I did want Lescott to start the match as he was the most in-form English centre back this season. He definitely showed that form tonight. Outstanding display.

Ashley Cole, Scott Parker and James Milner also very good.

The result means very little in terms of the European Championships, but it's a little encourageing to see that this team can get results like this, friendly or not.

Another positive tonight is that Phil Jones, Kyle Waler, Jack Rodwell and Danny Welbeck all played a part (Jones and Welbeck were especially good) and Sturridge was an unsused sub. We still have Smalling and Wilshere to add.

I'm not bigging up the kids here, but at least they played and did well against such a good side.

Last night's game was a very efficient 'ITALIAN' display from England.

Imo i think England should go for a 4-3-3.They could possibly implement an Italian style by having Parker as a regista ,and i really think Milner should play as a CM considering the fact that England have good wingers.

The midfield would probably appear thin but with players like Milner and Barry you got good work rate and pressing capabilities.imo Milner is a really important player in the England setup.

He did a lot of defensive work yesterday than offensive and worked his socks off so it would be ideal if England have Milner in central midfield since there are a lot of good flashy options on the wings like Adam Johnson ,Young and ofcourse Walcott.(was pretty poor yesterday though)

I imagine that a large part of the team that played Spain must be knackered, so heavy rotation expected. No reason why Sturridge can't get his first cap, and the rest of the kids in the squad should start along with him.

In fact, I'm not too bothered who plays so long as Walker, Jones, Rodwell, Sturridge and Welbeck all start the game. Oh, and Walcott to be rested, of course.

I heard he's planning on giving Zamora a start which would be depressing.

I like Zamora but I would like to see how a Sturridge/Welbeck partnership would work now that Rooney's suspended for our group games.

You take things too seriously, little man. I was praising Lescott throughout the game.

Still, got Barry to fall back on, so it's all good

Has Sturridge banged Capello's wife or something? Don't understand why he doesn't play him :/

That England line up is awful btw.

So England 1 - 0 Sweden.

It was a really flat game and with the midfield we had out, I don't think we could've exepcted much more. Jones, Barry and Rodwell played well but none of them could provide any creativity. Our biggest threat came from Downing and Walcott, who both played well.

The defence was good again, even if Sweden were very blunt. Walker the stand-out.

Everyone did okay without being good, really, and two wins on the bounce is good enough for now. We still have the likes of Wilshere, Gerrard, Young and Rooney to add to this team so I think we'll see better performances.

Badly.. Very Happy

He came in as a substitute did well, almost won a penalty. Jack Rodwell had a good game and Bobby Zamora was just being his usual mediocre self

Sturridge was hardly involved when he came on, since England were pretty much defending in that time. Had a couple of decent touches, but that's about it.

What position did he play when he came on? I'm assuming he was the lone CF if he didn't see much of the ball?

He was on the right, and england gave up after 1-0, and so did sweden

Was a boring match which england should have won 3-0.

At least Sturridge got his 1st App for England
