Del Piero on 'historic' Milan rivalry
Alessandro Del Piero fires up Sunday’s Juventus-Milan by pointing out this is “a rivalry without equals in my career.”
The Bianconeri captain wrote on his official website that he was particularly looking forward to this weekend’s clash.
“There are many rivalries that have marked and are marking my career at Juventus, some more meaningful than others, some more traditional, but as a top of the table battle the games with Milan are without equal,” wrote Del Piero.
“In my first year at Juventus in 1993-94, the Rossoneri took flight towards the Scudetto by beating us at the Stadio Delle Alpi. A year later, we ended their domination with a victory on our own turf, which convinced us definitively that we could win the title.
“Since then it has almost always been like this, a match that marks the race for the title, in Italy and in Europe.”
Del Piero seems to have excised the recent years of Inter domination, but is more focused on the current situation.
“The season has just started, but I am certain we’ll find the atmosphere of a great top of the table clash in this Juve-Milan. It will be a significant step in both our journeys, even if it is too early to be decisive. Whatever the result, there’s a long way to go.
“It is also the first of the ‘historic’ games that we are playing in our new stadium. I will not deny I am already fired up by the atmosphere I’m sure we’ll experience on Sunday evening at the Juventus Stadium.
“We continue to prepare with the utmost focus and concentration for this great appointment.”
