Arsenal vs Shrewsbury Preview
Arsenal VS Shrewsbury Town
Exciting prospects Ryo Miyaichi (Ryodinho) and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain are both expected to start
The Rebound
After a rather unfortunate (Yet expected?) loss against Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal are looking to bounce back and generate momentum, and there is no better time to play in the Carling Cup then now. The first team must be fatigued after playing more games then most sides after having to qualify to gain entrance into the Champions League, playing Liverpool, United, and then Dortmund (With not much time to rest in between). As an Arsenal supporter, a bright spot in the season is usually watching the great bright youngsters play in the Carling Cup, however, this season is not much like any other. The pressure that is given to our players is immense and in the one competition in which we have a high chance of winning, there will not be much room for error. On any other day, a game versus Shrewsbury Town and Arsenal would be a game that can be missed, but there is a great deal of expectation this time, and it can be crucial to us returning to good form.
The Achievement
Shrewsbury Town, a team from League 2, have finally progressed to the third round of the cup for the first time since 1993! After going against the odd and beating EPL newcomers Swansea, they could have wished for an easier draw as a victory over Arsenal ( No matter how devastated ) is unlikely and would be a supreme achievement.
Match facts.
Head-to-head
*This is only the fourth meeting between these clubs, and the first in the League Cup.
*The previous three matches were in the FA Cup, with Arsenal winning 2-0 at home in a third-round replay in 1968 and also triumphing at Shrewsbury in a fifth-round tie in 1991.
Home News
*Arsenal have won the League Cup twice (1987 and 1993) and been runners-up on five occasions.
*They have reached at least the quarter-finals in each of the past eight seasons.
*The Gunners have never been eliminated by a bottom division club in the League Cup.
*On Saturday, Arsenal became only the fifth team ever to concede as many as 14 goals in their opening five Premier League matches

My Predicted XI
Djourou can easily replace Squillaci
Prediction
The Arsenal team that SHOULD play tomorrow has a lot of flair about it, with two of the most exciting young wingers in the world in Ryodinho and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain set to play, Shrewsbury are going to have their hands full handling the pace and trickery of both of them. With a midfield that must pride itself on hard work, running, grit, and steel, marshaled by none other then the infamous "Little Mozart", this team should have too much about it to be beaten.Djourou can easily replace Squillaci
Prediction
Arsenal 5-0 Shrewsbury
In Ali we believe

Re: Arsenal vs Shrewsbury Preview
If we dont beat this team with even our toddler team then i am sorry but my heart falls for you. We have to beat a league 2 team and the first step to beating Shrewsbury is to gain some confidence and send the players to have fun rather than pressurise them to win. And secondly we cannot play like we did against Blackurn! nah uh! We cannot give up a lead and nor can we score two OG's.
But rest aside kinda excited to see Arsenal's second strings and youngsters give it a go in the Cup

Re: Arsenal vs Shrewsbury Preview
I don't want to see Frimpong as well as Coquelin. Somehow, not sure of Rosicky featuring either.
In fact, I'd rather see Ebicilio/Ozyakup/Aneke in the midfield. And Djourou at CB please. I know hes drawing a lot of slack right now, but even a Djourou playing with his legs tied is better than Squillashite. :/

Re: Arsenal vs Shrewsbury Preview
I expect/want a 6-0 victory. Haven't had those for a long time now....
This also is the perfect chance for Djorou to start gaining his confidence back.

Nice preview ali8775. But not sure your line up is correct.
Djourou will play, Rosicky won't, hes not fit.

Miyaichi won't be starting. He lacks fitness.
Expected team is:
Fabiasnki; Gibbs, Miquel, Djourou, Jenkinson; Chamberlain, Coquelin, Frimpong, Benayoun; Park, Chamakh
Either in a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 with Park playing just behind Chamakh.
Bench expected to be: Emi Martinez, Daniel Boateng, Nico Yennaris, Oguzhan Ozyakup, Chuks Aneke, Ryo Miyaichi and Sanchez Watt.

Re: Arsenal vs Shrewsbury Preview
From young guns blog
"After a start to the season that has brought disappointment, frustration and more questions than answers, Arsenal kick off their Carling Cup campaign against Shrewsbury Town this evening, looking to banish some demons.
The competition has always been seen as a second class by Arsène Wenger, but he swapped his long running youthful principles for a more committed offensive last term, leading to a final against Birmingham City. The scars of that last minute defeat are still there for all to see, as Wenger prepares to show his hand for this years Cup run.
In terms of team selection, the Frenchman has cooked up a mixture between last years experience driven side, and his favoured policy of young prospects. Łukasz Fabiański, Johan Djourou and Kieran Gibbs all need 90 minutes and all start, as does Marouane Chamakh, who will partner Park Chu-Young in a potential return to the 4-4-2.
Elsewhere, Carl Jenkinson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both impressed for the Reserves last week, and will offer a dangerous attacking threat on the right. On the left, Ryo Miyaichi’s lack of fitness means another chance for the experienced Yossi Benayoun. Francis Coquelin and Emmanuel Frimpong will anchor the midfield.
The bench is packed full of Reserve team talent. Second string skipper Ignasi Miquel starts the game, but with Sébastien Squillaci still missing, Daniel Boateng is included. Miyaichi, Nico Yennaris, Chuks Aneke, Oğuzhan Özyakup, Sanchez Watt and goalkeeper Emi Martínez make up a list of exciting replacements."

Excited to see if the 4-4-2 will work or not
---------------------------Fabianksi------------------------------
Jenkinson-------Miquel-------------Djourou-----------Gibbs
Oxlade---------------Frimpong------Coquelin--------------Benayoun
--------------Park--------------------Chamakh-------------------
It might be more of a 4-2-2-2 then 4-4-2.
Hope Aneke comes on at 60 mins or so.
And i really really wish the game is online somewhere

Was meant to be going to this game with some friends but we couldn't get 5 seats together for the £10. So we are going to Olympiacos game now
Re: Arsenal vs Shrewsbury Preview
Looking forward to seeing more of the new faces, especially Ryo. Wenger could have sent Ryo out on loan for a year but he fought hard to get the work permit sorted on time so he must think he can have an immediate impact??
its a shame i might have to see Squillachi in an Arsenal shirt again.............................

Ryo is obviously coming back from injury so not fit enough to start. Benayoun on the left I think.
