Average age different CL squads
So I translated this directly from a dutch football website, unfortunately not data from every team, but figured it might be interesting nonetheless:
If someone has the energy to calculate the numbers for the remaining squads, you'll get some GBS honour points.
Anyway, Ajax for the win. Without their two thirty year old routine players, they would be VERY young.
Ajax has the youngest squad of all 32 Champions-league contenders. The average age of the players the Amsterdam club is 23.4.
Ajax (with among others, the 19-year old Christian Eriksen) barely beats out Belgian Racing Genk, with dutch coach Mario Been (on average 23.6). Bayer Leverkusen follows with an average of 23.9. The Germans are together with Shakhtar Donetsk and RC Genk the only teams with only one thirty-plusser on their squad list.
Internazionale en APOEL Nicosia both have no less that eleven players who have passed the age of thirty, AC Milan has ten. The latter, who managed to keep Barcelona to a 2-2 draw yesterday, has the oldest selection, with an average age of 29.2. AC Milan narrowly beats out APOEL Nicosia (28.3), Chelsea (27.8 ), Olympiakos Piraeus (27.6) and Internazionale (27.6).
It is remarkable that both Barcelona (25.2) and Real Madrid (24.8 ) belong to the youngest teams. Also Manchester City with an average of 24.3 belongs to the younger ones. Arsenal, on the other hand, ironically ends up in the older regions, with an average squad age of 26.7.

Not like that doesn't happen now.
Ajax (and Porto) probably most frequented team by scouts around.
Has been for years too.

Re: Average age different CL squads
Allegri's Milan first time in the camp nou:2-2
Mou's Madrid first time in the camp nou:5-0
Dont see whats the problem with having some aged players on the starting 11

I don't see what so "narrow" about a .9 difference. Milan are head and shoulders above everyone else in the age department.

But when one of your over 30s is Nesta, it's not that big of a deal
I'd have problems if one of our over 30s is Bonera though =/

Milan vs Madrid at the San Siro = Dominated, tied with an offside goal.
Milan vs Madrid at the Bernabeu = Completely and utterly dominated.
Your point? :lol!:

Re: Average age different CL squads
The 2011/12 analysis reveals that Spain is the nation from which the most players originate (81), closely followed by France (78) and, interestingly from outside the EU, Brazil (69). This confirms the extraordinary role played by the Brazilian workforce in the world football economy (see the Global Player Migration Report at http://www.eurofootplayers.org/-Publications). In total, footballers in the 2011/12 competition come from 68 different national associations from all continents.
I found this interesting.

Whats more astonishing is Milan where able to win something of true value with the around 30 avg squad, Whereas RM with a +400M squad, are still building a strong young team, but dont worry I have the next excuse ready for RM fans in 5 years time:
" We are rebuilding, this squad with the best choech ever, managed to keep us second, and the competition back then was massive against the best football team ever."

Re: Average age different CL squads
Heh. Leverkusen has the tallest squad and Barcelona the shortest. That should give an apt answer to the question whether tall players are better than short ones XD
