Re: World Cup 14 Squads Discussion
Maicon? The Porto Maicon or the dude we all know? Henrique? Is that the Henrique who plays for Bordeaux or Napoli?? Miranda or Alex are a lot more deserving in the CB position if it's either the Bordeaux or Napoli dudes. I also can't believe that old Maicon is picked over the likes of Rafael and either Porto fullback.

Re: World Cup 14 Squads Discussion
Maicon always performs for Brazil and has had a great season for Roma.
Only really questionable selections were Henrique and Maxwell, everything else is pretty straightforward.

Re: World Cup 14 Squads Discussion
Maxwell has been great for PSG so i really don't see that one as controversial. Very solid.
Maicon is a wingback, not a fullback. So basically you're ignoring defense completely if Alves goes down.

Maicon plays in a 4 man back line at Roma and was part of Mou's Inter. To say that playing him is ignoring defence is a bit of a stretch.

Re: World Cup 14 Squads Discussion
Serie A... and i don't mean this as on offense... is a slowed down league. You don't have to worry about having to fly back and forth because plays evolve fairly slowly and the wing speed is not that good. Watching Maicon get destroyed at City in both EPL and CL due to pace was all i needed to see; he was completely overwhelmed by pace.
Felipe Luis of Atleti should have been considered too.

Re: World Cup 14 Squads Discussion
marcelo playing in a 4 man defense doesnt make him a good defender, he is quite bad actually, like Maicon. Him thriving in Serie A because wing play, and concepts about stretching the pitch are weak is not a surprise. We saw him at city last season, teams were targetting him and he looked a clown tbh.

Re: World Cup 14 Squads Discussion
Don't mistake my comment for a complete absolution of Maicon's weaknesses and past mistakes. However, he has definitely performed well this season and he is a regular in previous Brazil squads. I think this squad is very good because it's obvious that the team dynamic has been considered. Scolari knows who the best XI are and he knows which players he can sub in when he needs to plug the holes. Sometimes it's not about picking the best player, sometimes you choose a guy because he is capable of doing a job for you and you know that he's going to work together well with the other personnel. Maicon is a prime example of that.

Best LB in the world doesn't get into that shit hole of a selection.
Bernard, Paulinho and Jo over Coutinho Bernard can't get a game in Ukraine to save his life ans still makes this
I hope they fail miserably.

Re: World Cup 14 Squads Discussion
Lucas only has himself to blame for not getting called up. He got more than enough chances for about 3 years and failed to perform in every single one of them. Bernard on the other hand has had a handful of great performances in his short spell.
Why are people mentioning Coutinho? The player that deserved to go the WC is actually Roberto Firmino who's by far the superior player. I'd have him ahead of Hernanes in a supersub role.

Six of Brazil's 23 players have been named in a World Cup squad before. Last time they had fewer players returning: 1978 (5).

Re: World Cup 14 Squads Discussion
Juanfran doesn't look good tbh. He's by far the weak link defensively. They have him in there because he's good at overlapping and crosses well. On defense, he's a headless chicken that fouls all the time. But since the rest of the defense is solid and the midfield too, Atleti are able to compensate.
