Again? Closest they came was 2nd in 1998 and haven't finished top 2 or 3 since the 80's before that. Maybe that's what the "again" part means and like that, I just answered my own question...

I meant near the top not necessarily actually 1st because they haven't been even top 4 for a long time...

Wow. Surprised so many people misunderstood the reasoning behind this thread I know I was pretty much rambling throughout the whole post (was well tired last night) but still.....
The reasons why there's not much competition for the League title in La Liga are well publicized but this was basically intended to be a "third best" club in Spain topic.

Re: Best of the Rest in La Liga?
Ah I see, missed that.
TA seemed to understand it though, he went for Valencia.
I think I will side with him and pick them, maybe Atletico next but I just dont trust them.
I think there is no stand out from the pack, Valencia will be closer to the rest then Barca and Madrid if it is them who are that 3rd best team.

Re: Best of the Rest in La Liga?
Valencia should take the #3 spot, depending on whether Rami is capable of playing CB by himself (the other CBs suck horribly).

Valencia should take it once their defense and Emery don't mess up too often...

Victor Ruiz sucks horribly?
CB is'nt the issue for Valencia now its RB.

Rami-Ruiz should cope, Valencia are more than likely to finish third.

He's not starting. They have Costa next to Rami or some other stiff. I watched the Liverpool preseason game and the last La Liga game. Whoever it was... he was horrific. I mean awful.
Defense is a big problem for Valencia.

Re: Best of the Rest in La Liga?
The OP is spot on many things, actually. Atletico has the strongest squad, but Valencia is the strongest team. VIllarreal lacks depth, and De Guzman is still an x factor. Atheltic Bilbao... not yet sure how strong they will be, Espanyol in the past couple of years was often the surprise with the quality of their football. And Malaga will take some time to adjust, it all depends on how well Pelle's system takes effect. They dont need superstars just yet.
No mention of Sevilla tho, one of the ballsiest club in Spain, they definitely have a president with the mentality to challenge for CL, but they dont often invest nor put together strong enough squads to compete.
Their first game was very impressive, maybe they can keep it up all season long and headbutt some teams.

yes he does, Villarreal is still playing it today.
The brazilian 4222, Pelle usually buys players that fit his tactic rather than stars.

Judging by recent positions, that actually is quite false. Judging by recent performances, you may be on to something...

Re: Best of the Rest in La Liga?
Im not sure how Villareal is going to cope with a carzola less squad. There is not enough creativity in midfield.Cani is a good player but no carzola plus he is awful at possession keeping which is important for them.
I dont rate Rossi and Nilmar that highly,Rossi has a long way to becoming world class and nilmar imo is awful in efficiency, really awful.
Bilbao will not get that far,how much a club can go with players only from a particular place? that thing is certainly limiting them eventhough they can be proud over that.
I think valencia and atletico are both on par in squad strengh. But atletico is pathetico, they will find a way to choke come december.Valencia defense was one single RB away from being called as a very good defense, which they failed to reinforce properly this summer.Still i believe they will finish comfortably like last year.

Does'nt matter how good you are Pathetico brings you down to a mid table level of performance hence the term Pathetico

Re: Best of the Rest in La Liga?
whys everybody calling him carzola its cazorla...
and i think valencia should finish it 3rd, but im also suprised that no one mentioned sevilla, the amount of talent on that team is remarkable i watched them play their opener vs malaga and you could see the difference in skill right there, but we have to keep in mind that sevilla dont bottle it like they have for a few seasons now.

We bought him from Genk and loaned him to Atletico. Probably for two seasons depending on how many games he gets 1st season.
Soon to be Cech's heir.
