Portugal NT manager - really harsh words on Carvalho
"Ricardo Carvalho gave up his teammates and his country. He's a deserter. " Paulo Bento, coach of Portugal, took badly the hasty departure of Ricardo Carvalho Wednesday, when he announced his international retirement through a press release. He expressed his anger at a news conference. "With me, the doors are closed. While I'm at this job, he will not return. It is impossible. He wasn't going to start, true; but he never spoke to me, " he declared. He also denied rumors of a spat with the Real Madrid defender: "For there to be a disagreement, there needs to be a conversation. That has not been the case. [...] We were in the dining room when we learned that a player had deserted. He turned his back on the Portuguese and must be punished for his selfish attitude."
Well... Carvalho nuked that bridge lol.

Something dosen't seem right about this whole situation, I doubt a 33yo would dessert his team because he believed he wouln't start in an international friendly against cyprus. You'd think he might be glad for a rest.
On another note , Portugal are screwed , for the Euro's cuz they have no one to replace him.He was a unique presence in a defense full of pepe knockoffs + the real pepe

I disagree with you. Rolando and Perreira are plenty good and Silvio is a good looking youngster for the future.

He is nicely replaced by the players mentioned by the Frenchman but still, Ricky made sure that bridge was nicely burnt, torn down and disintegrated to make sure that structure is never used again.

Rolando and Bruno alves are bothe pepe knockoffs, playing them alongside pepe would be a tactical fail in my opinion.
Perreira is a rb
Have no idea who silvio is ,maybe he could work.

Silvio was a defender for Sporting Braga last year and looked good in Europa. Atleti picked him off this summer... he's only 23 (about to turn 24).

Domenech was/is a moron. Bento is actually a good coach imo.

Weren't there rumours of Mexes having relations with Domenech's girlfriend at the time. That situation is what I'm referring to...

Rumours of him being an absolute prick/moron at Sporting are still around.

Players should retire from the NT when they are 30.

Right then, so as a RM fan you really wanted him to continue for Portugal or fully concentrate on RM for his remaining final years?

I would like him to continue playing football to the best of his abilities for both club and country (particularly for country) and I'm speaking solely on the basis of being a Real Madrid fan...

If their good enough and there's no better younger players then they should continue playing.
Carvalho will probably leave next year or be a backup, which is what he should be this season.

He didn't exactly set the world on fire at Real Oviedo. I still haven't figured out how he got the Portugal NT job yet alone how Sports csays he's a good coach. What exactly has he accomplished?

Other than Sporting Club youth manager and also qualifying for the UCL with the 1st team and winning a Portuguese Cup and Super Cup, nothing of serious note. Didn't really think much of him at Oviedo either but I never really thought much of Real Oviedo period...

Re: Portugal NT manager - really harsh words on Carvalho
Hmmmm.... You just may want tom check out his results with sporting. They're very decent. Don't feel like typing a long email about it; but he did well with the club with meh talent.
As far as the Portugal NT, they were a disaster before he took over. Since he's had the job, they are 6-1-1 with a dominant win over Spain included.
You can't really argue about his coaching ability being good (not spectacular). No idea about his personality.

Re: Portugal NT manager - really harsh words on Carvalho
The latest news on Carvalho's story is that the Madrid player is running the risk to be disciplined by the UEFA in the champions league competition. The sanction can go from 1 to 3 months.
In this case, Ramos will have to play in the central back line besides Pepe and Arbeloa will take the BR, also Varane can take his chance.
Wait & see...
