I'm not a big fan of unjustified knee jerk but Carvalho is well past it.Look at his positioning for the conceded goal again:



It isn't like we don't have any alternatives. Arbeloa can play rightback (Ramos in CB), Varane could slot in etc. If he is old then rest him from game to game Mou...

I have to agree here. Ricky doesn't have his head in the game IMO. This is pretty much the only major change I would make to the team right now.

I have been saying Carvalho should be dropped for some time now

Pepe has 48 steals compared to 27 steals from Carvalho and playing the exact same amount of time

I have been saying this from last year january,meh with carvalho we are not gonna win big games.

His pre-season has been pretty mediocre. I didn't really give it that much attention because pre-season form doesn't always carry into the regular season (Benzema ) but in his case it did.

We need a strong CB partnership in there. It makes our full backs look 100% better and the team attack 100% better as a result.

Ramos should move to CB with Arbeloa coming in at RB.

Ramos' predilection post is a CB, he can become the world #1 in few years.(He had a great performances there)
I'm not shooting everything that movesn but Ramos is most of the time useless as a BR and esp in the big games. You can check our 2 supercopa clasicos and see from the fault of whom the cules goals were scored, i can say that he was guilty in 3 min.

I was saying throughout the preseason and even before in other forums that SR4 should slip as a CB and put Arbeloa in his place.

Mou is protecting Carv, Di Maria and now Coentrao, he better search the team interest.

Mourinho needs to stop with that overbearing portuguese bias BS, it's starting to annoy me. He positioned that kid Mendes in castilla already, put him in the CL team... but give me a break and bench carvalho ffs

If nothing changes in Santander game in the BL, so i'm pretty sure Mou is lacking the sens of vision. If you conceed 8 goals in just 6 games so there is a deep problem with the whole defense tactic and new blood should be ejected.

Anyway, of course I agree that Carvalho, Coentrao and Di Maria should be benched. NOW.

Bench Di Maria for Higgy, Carvalho for Varane and Coentrao for Khedira/Lass

Tbf, all the criticism I would still pick coentrao ahead of lass. I just feel more secured when we play him. He can be caught being shaky and all, but his coping with his new role really. Varane should get some minutes in second half and higgy should start.

I've said it a million times... I'm very nervous with Carvalho and Marcelo playing defense on the same side. One is a shadow of his former self while the other gambles all the time.

We will have a better defense either way if Arbeloa goes to RB and Ramos to CB [on the left]. Mou is still defending the defense though. We can also start coentrao in LB if we're going to be conservative.

We'll see what happens on Wednesday, I don't expect major changes but I expect mou to be smarter on who starts.

Tbh Ramos, Pepe, Carvalho and Marcelo aren't 100% solid defensively.

But then again for us attacking is more of a priority.

hadnt it been for pepe playing smart, we wouldve have conceded more goals yersterday the amount of times he left pepe on his own was rather painful to watch, credit to pepe thoughh

also dimaria had a poor game yesterday and i am also the first one to stick up for him when people criticize him, but damn having 59% passes successful when we are having the majority of posession while everybody else on our team were above 67% does tell alarming news

Your totally right actually, we never get to fully control the match if we dont score early.

So do you think he'll use Ramos [40% chance], Albiolol [40%chance] or Varane [20% chance]?

I would personally go with Ramos tbh but wish varane could grab that chance
