La Ligas big mistake...
Is trying to move into Englands prime time Asian friendly kick off time.
As good as Real and Barca are, their other matches are boring. Good as it is for the purists, the purists will still watch regardless. Its a captive audience.
Theres a reason why Osasuna and Espanyol dont get decent tv revenue. No one wants to watch them. It wouldnt be so bad but for the reason they want to go head to head with the most exciting league in the world.
If Madrid are 3-0 up after 30 mins yet Utd are being held away to Spurs, where will the audience go? Even when an EPL match is seemingly dead, anything can happen. Theres a reason to watch.
Saturday lunchtimes always have a big team in it. They will attract a big audience.
Non big 2 in Spain wouldnt have a chance. competing would mean using 1 of the big 2...thats 50% of La Ligas attraction used so early.
Is this a mistake?

Do you miss Valencia's comeback from a 2 goal deficit this weekend?
How's that boring?

Re: La Ligas big mistake...
Oh you have decent matches, but tv figures dont lie
Take Villarreal. Spains 4th best team spanked away to the champs. Not a peep will be heard about them.
Arsenal? Its all over the place. Theres context and layers to the defeat. Actual analysis.
Take this forum, it takes an exceptional game to happen so a non top 2 team will be mentioned.
Numerous EPL sides will be discussed, many matches mentioned.
Its just fact. More neutrals can tell you Spurs first 11 than Valencias.

Point taken.
I wouldn't say watching the other teams is boring, though.
It's like calling Ligue 1 boring.
But I'm guessing the casual foreign crowd is just too ignorant and close minded to notice.

If Madrid is being held away in Sevilla, and Utd are up 3-0 in sunderland, what then?
even when La Liga games seem dead, anything can happen, there is reason to watch...
is this the kind of arguments you run with nowadays?

Re: La Ligas big mistake...
I see nothing wrong with La liga opening up themselves to a larger market, the people watching now will keep doing so, and they have the opportunity to attract a larger audience.
I really dont see how it's a big mistake. La liga is mocked for not being as well marketed as Serie A or the EPL, and when they are attempting to do just that, they get the stick?
Maybe im missing the point Cyber is trying to make, to whom i'll ask to detail it if he doesnt mind.

Re: La Ligas big mistake...
The tv figures are low because the tming is poor in Asia.No one is would have watched Barca yesterday in India apart from die hard fans because of the timing. If they change the timings La liga has huge potential to tap in Asian markets and more particularly in sub - continent.
No one is going to watch bolton vs blackburn ahead of Valencia vs Sevilla if given the choice in Asia.Unfortunately the timings for Asian market is not suitable to attract crowds

Plus moving time slots alienate some of the older fans who found the KO convenient.
Ratings might actually go down

Yes they would. EPL games get packed out bars etc for all the games. Theres a reason they stagnate the as live games in Asia, they just love EPL football. Plus its easier to bet on than other leagues which is huuuuuuuge
Asia is a dead market. its gone. theyre extremely loyal people and have no reason or inclination to swap Arsenal for Valencia.
They love the EPL style, La Liga style isnt as attractive to them

Re: La Ligas big mistake...
It's only a bit hard for me to believe since I don't live in such a world.
The only time there's mention of the EPL in my block, for example, is Chicharito (and Davila (ever since Chelsea picked him up)) from crazed teens and Chivas fans and that's about it.
Everyone's either a Man U bandwagoner or RM or Barca fans/bandwagoners.

Re: La Ligas big mistake...
judging by Cyber's logic of 'anything can happen makes the league exciting' then Serie A > All. Only in Serie A you see relegation teams giving the leaders a run for their many and actually costing them points, this doesnt happen as much in England or spain
The only reason the EPL has a bigger fanbase world wide is because its marked very well, nothing else

i was talking about sub - continent about India in particular. No they wouldnt choose Blackburn vs Bolton ahead of Valencia vs Sevilla if given the choice. They are carzy about big teams in PL not EPL over all.And Barca is growing faster than even United in the last 2 - 3 years here.So La liga have huge potential in sub continental market admittedly i dont know much about south eastern asian countries like Malaysia and others. But if proper timing schedules and marketing are in place La liga can easily increase its viewership to large extent.
As for betting markets betting is banned in India so its pointless.

Re: La Ligas big mistake...
I would watch Bolton v Blackburn before Sevilla v Valencia, but that's because Bolton and B'Burn play in the league I follow the most; I'm interested in knowing how their football looks like on the day, what sort of performances the players put in and what might be expected from their next fixtures.
If there are Premier League fans like me in Asia, I'd expect they'd rather watch Bolton v Blackburn than Sevilla v Valencia, even if quality of football might be better in the latter game.
What comes to timing of games, you've got to consider local needs first. If you play on Monday like Barca v Villareal yesterday, it's gotta be in the evening in Spain so the locals can actually make it to the game and see it on TV. And games on weekends, aren't those a bit later in La Liga than in BPL? The big La Liga games anyway.

Umm not really, some people prefer La Liga over the EPL... It is just the presentation, for example here in Canada the EPL is on Setanta which is a MUCH more polished TV station then Gol TV which carries La Liga.. Gol TV is HORRIBLE!... EPL just has the glitz and glamor right now

Re: La Ligas big mistake...
I don't get the point. So you mean that the fans that only loves EPL usually also stay up in the middle of the night/early morning to watch La Liga? Or do you mean that the die hard La Liga fans who actually sacrifice their sleep to watch La Liga games would stop to do so if the games was played at the same time as EPL games?
It's only positive for La Liga that those who want to watch the games are able to do so without turning their life upside down. Don't see how this is a problem at all. It may be that EPL is hugely popular, but La Liga isn't going to become less popular by being available.

The one problem I see is that games in the late summer and early summer/late spring might be played when it's very hot outside in Spain.
