Fontàs joins the group

Andreu Fontàs trained this morning, as did the five team mates who also trained on Monday evening –Messi, Mascherano, Alexis, Keita and Adriano.

Fontàs was the new face in the squad that trained at 9.00 this morning. This was the first time the defender has trained since the tour, and he was joined by Messi, Mascherano, Adriano, Alexis and Keita, who also trained on pitch number 2 at the Ciutat Esportiva on Monday.

Montoya and Masip too

The six first team players were once again joined by Barça B’s Martín Montoya and Jordi Masip.

Pep Guardiola participates

The players were all given pulsometers before training. It started with a gentle warm up session and then the usual drills, in which Pep Guardiola also decided to take part. Masip worked in isolation with Juan Carlos Unzué.

Puyol on his own
Carles Puyol also put in an appearance, and continued his recovery programme under the watchful eye of Juanjo Brau.

Hleb is injured? I think they don't want him at Camp nou at all. Is an injury like Fabregas' one, inexistent.

Yes, this is the reason why he wasn't sold until now..

Zubi said they are searching for a club for Hleb..
Hleb's agent, said there is no offers becuz of Hleb's injury!
According to sport.es, Hleb might stay until January, than Barca will sell him when he's fit !

15 players for evening training

Barça’s evening training session was attended by seven players from the first team, two from the B team and six from the youth team. José Manuel Pinto reappeared after a two-day absence.


Ten of the first team are away on international duty, but Pep Guardiola still put the others through their paces at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. This was the second session of the day and included even more extra players from the B and youth teams.

Pinto back

Following a two-day break after the US tour, José Manuel Pinto trained today along with Messi, Mascherano, Adriano, Alexis, Keita and Fontàs. The Barça B players were Montoya and Masip, and the youth players were Babunski, Cornejo, Quintilla, Miguel Ángel Sainz, Samper and Patrick.

Recovery work for Xavi

Xavi Hernández also appeared at Sant Joan Despí after leaving the Spanish national team due to an injury to his right soleus. He did recovery work in isolation today, as did the also injured Puyol on pitch number 2.

Wednesday morning session

The team will be back at work on Wednesday morning at 9.00, behind closed doors at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. Alexis Sánchez will not be taking part because he has been called up for a international friendly for Chile against France in Montpellier.

Barca Training Report (10/8/2011)


- Available First Team Players + Some B team & Youth players:

Pinto, Masch, Keita, Adriano, Messi, and Fontàs were the available First Team Players. During the session they did some physical excercises, some ball work, and appropriate stretching excercises.
The B team players who took part in the session were Martin Montoya, Jordi Masip, Cristian Lobato, and Albert Dalmau. The youth player, Pol Calvet(17, CM/DM), completed the group.

- Puyol, Xavi, Maxwell & Afellay worked away from the main group
(recovering from injuries)

Captain Carles Puyol, and Xavi Hernandez, followed their specific recovery schedule. Puyol is still recovering from his knee injury and Xavi is working to overcome the calf problems that prevented him going to Italy with the Spanish National team. As for Maxwell Scherrer and Ibrahim Afellay, they both did some specific excercises away from the main group.

Realisation that not buying a CB wasn't the best idea...


Wtf do we do now??? Puyol's out too... Rarely have I seen Fontas or Abidal play as right sided CBs.

I guess it will be Adriano - Fontas - Abidal - Maxwell. The crumbling wall of sand rather than the Great Wall of China.

Maybe kizz this was a wake up call and we will actually buy a CB now - fingers crossed.

We don't need a CB. It is perfect that we have injuries so Fontas can be tested in a big match, although completely irrelevant, like the Super Cup.

I don't like the injuries, but I like that Fontas can be tested, that is.

If the injuries are serious which I feel they are not and Pep doesnt trust Fontas... We can still play:

Preparation for Sunday

The boss will be working hard to get his players ready for Sunday night’s Super Cup game against Real Madrid and this evening’s session will be followed by two more tomorrow, as well as a further session on Saturday morning before the trip to Madrid.

Following medical tests, Piqué and Busquets are both doubtful for Sunday’s game after picking up knocks on international duty.

Sergio and Piqué availability depends on response to treatment

Both players came back with slight injuries from the Spain game on Wednesday night and will undergo specific treatment to try and make sure they are available for Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup game.

According to the Club’s medical services, Sergio Busquets has a bang on his right side and will undergo specific treatment. His reaction will determine his availability for Sunday’s game.

Piqué suffered thigh strain

Piqué suffered a muscle strain and like Busquets will be treated by the Club doctors who will decide on his availability for the Madrid match.

1. I can't call the Spanish Super Cup irrelevant. It's the first of six trophies we are playing for this year. Remember when we won six out of six trophies in 2009, it wouldn't have happened without winning the Supercopa Espana. It may be the smallest trophy but it's still not an irrelevant pre-season tournament like the Audi Cup.

2. We may not strictly need to buy a CB but you know what. I am getting this odd feeling that our squad is just one world class CB short of looking almost invincible.
