I think Rodri is close. He binds it all together. But Fabian was amazing for sure, I wouldnt say "by far" though, everyone was on top of their game.

Nico for me was more Di Lorenzo's inability to deal with pace than his performance as a whole. He's Basque of course I will favour him over Fabian but the latter takes it for me in stifling the Italian midfield.

Agreed about Rodri.

Surprised that Nico got MOTM because Fabian was balling, playing solid both in offense and defense.

Not that Nico didn't deserve it, just surprised.

So... any team with any front-line quality + pace would destroy Spain's tactics. That CB duo is meh at best and slow to boot.

Italy... they have no forwards. Like none. So Spain could press them almost recklessly since there was no threat to worry about if the ball made it through.

Croatia and Italy are very slow. Interesting to see what Spain looks like against a proper physical and fast team.

Looks like Mbappe wont feature vs Netherlands...so do the latter have a chance now? Their attack is led by Depay n no midfield since De Jong is out means Im not worried Imagine both teams would be happy with a draw...

Lol Sports, you said much of the same about Real Madrid and we all have seen how wrong you were with those predictions. I’m not saying Spain will win this, but only France and Germany are the only two teams I fear. Unfortunately all three may end of on the same side of the bracket! With the way, Nico and Yamal are playing, adding speed on both wings, plus the play of the fullbacks, and midfield, this team is greatly improved from the WC team.

Portugal take Spain too imo... as talented as any team in its starting 11. My issue with Spain is it's going to be beautiful or bust. The tactics remind me very much of the Lille days of Rudi Garcia. Plan A is incredibly good. But there is no plan B. It was ok if you had talent of Spain from 2008-2012. But the talent isn't dominant enough to not have a plan B.

To me, I find it astounding how you under rate teams. You were dead wrong about Real Madrid and I say same with what you are now saying about Spain. This starting lineup is not far off the Spanish team that won their first Euro. That team didn’t have a strong bench which is the case now. That Spanish regime didn’t have a talented bench until 2008. Nico, Yamal, Pedri may be young but they are talented, as good as any of the teams you are talking about bar Mbappe. The fullbacks have been fantastic. Rodri is far more talented than Busquets was. Fabián thus far has been outstanding. And all CBs, portero and Morata have been more than adequate. The overall talent level of starters is no worse than the teams you are talking about bar your country. And the tactics of this team is far superior than the tiki taca reign. That team also didn’t have the overall scoring talent as this one relying on Villa magic. Same can be said about your team as Mbappe is the only reliable scorer.

We will see how far this team will go, but I’ll be surprised if your analysis is correct!
