Can we stop with this “messi is a playmaker” nonsense, he’s not a midfielder, he plays zero defense, he’s physically finished and turns over the ball much more and is a liability off the ball, and he can’t dribble anymore. Messi WAS a playmaker, his decline at this point is extreme and shocking.

He’s neither a playmaker nor a goalscorer, he’s a number 10 with weaknesses all over, and he’s struggling in an average league. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a while but he’s a shadow of the player he once was.

Messi 13 assists 3 goals in 20 games.
Ronaldo 15 goals 3 assists in 26 games.

I don't see a difference.

Obviously Messi v CR is always fun n glad its still going in some ways Cant imagine football world without them, would be so much less fun...

N so continuing, Messi arent looking to score goals like CR does nowadays, he plays so deep n more of a play maker assisting, whereas CR does nothing else, so no point in comparing goals.

the only thing they really had in common was they both score a lot of goals. Nothing in there play styles suggest otherwise

The difference is the quality of the league and teammates, and both variables are in favor of Flopssi.

Nope, Messi has never been a true “playmaker”, is he a world class creator? Absolutely. But he has always been more of a second striker/false 9 or winger his whole career. For me, a playmaker is someone who dictates the pace of the game and starts and creates plays. Iniesta, Xavi, Modric, Zidane.. And Messi cannot be considered a midfielder; he is a forward and will always be one.


Did you just use assists to describe a playmaker.. @CBarca, that’s like me saying CR7 is a great playmaker because he has the most assists in the CL, when it’s clear he’s VERY FAR from a playmaker.

The difference is that Messi plays for the team and is improving them to titulero, Manure plays for Cronaldo who's leading them out of Europe.
