Germany clear favourites. Not even USA can save England this time.

This is insane. Germany haven't been this shit since 2001;
yet we get to enjoy a free win against England? After that most likely the Netherlands?
I will lose my shit if Löw makes the final, this entire Euros is a travesty.
Germany should've been out today. Hungary were robbed.

Re: EURO 2020 - R16 : England vs Germany
For five minutes I thought it was going to be England vs Hungary. The world has been robbed of a Hungary team in the quarter-finals.
For real though, England are going to have problems in this tie. If and when they score, they're going to drop deep and start using Kane as a target man. Germany will be able to keep the ball and move England around until they cave. They're the worse kind of team for England to face (nevermind facing Germany sucks for us at the best of us times).
My hope for us is, if we play on the front foot we can definitely score past this Germany defence. It's a matter of going out with that intention vs trying to play it cautiously, and I fear Southgate will go for the second option.
I will make the bold prediction that the winner of this tie will make the final. This side of the bracket looks much more favourable.

uhm... is it really?
I mean if France beat Switzerland they go on to face Spain/Croatia... that seems easier to me
can someone pls put up the full brackets somewhere for me... i stay confused with how this tournament works

Re: EURO 2020 - R16 : England vs Germany
Honestly England/Germany will probably go through Sweden to face the Netherlands in the semi - I can actually see Germany fluking their way to the final with this setup. Shameful.
Though honestly, Sweden will probably kick us out, and the Löw era will finally end. What a rough 7 years it's been. Well, actually it's been a rough 11 years, I consider 2010 the last year where Löw made reasonable choices.

Re: EURO 2020 - R16 : England vs Germany
cant say who will go through but atleast i am hoping England play more openly but hearing from English fans how Gareth Southgate is always in safe mode .... that could pose problems for Germany.
but if they do play more openly to exploit their own strength then i expect Germans to do the same on the other half.
4-2-3-1 against 3-4-1-2 is not bad, i am really hoping that gosens and kimmich gets all the space they need
this game is going to be juicy

Re: EURO 2020 - R16 : England vs Germany
i found one... I don't see England beating Netherlands if they make it that far btw... just a gut feeling. Although Wales or Denmark will probably make a contest out of Netherlands
i predict a Italy v Germany final

Re: EURO 2020 - R16 : England vs Germany
I did predict an Italy v Germany final as well (Italy winning easily btw);
but I can also very realistically see Germany going out to Sweden, leading to a Netherlands v Italy final.

Re: EURO 2020 - R16 : England vs Germany
Are England going to try and match up Germany with their own back 5?
If they intend on playing defensively and frustrating Germany, I could see an argument for the 541 in defence and when transitioning to attack getting the wingbacks (Saka/Trips?) forward and Grealish and Sterling joining Kane.
Regardless, Germany are the worst kind of opponent for England to face, even in their lesser state they have more than enough between Havertz, Muller, Kimmich, Gosens, Kroos and Goretzka to pull England apart and they obviously have that mentality to never stop going for it.

I don't want to sound arrogant but from what I saw from England, they still don't have the cutting edge for this kind of games. Against Czechs who are by no means worldbeaters the entire English midfield went afk after the first 20 minutes or so. You absolutely can't do that again any half decent side. We aren't at our best but still good enough to cut off English mids and attackers from any meaningful contribution to the game. Their best bet are set pieces.

Re: EURO 2020 - R16 : England vs Germany
The Czech players did work hard to do in their best ability, that being said Grealish Saka and later on Bellingham was incredibly good with ball. Rice and Philips are ok defensively. Kane doesnt seems to be this central figure that he is on club level and often tends to drop, is a bit slow when in build up so that could be a good news for Germany.
but Germany while being a solid group I am more worried about ... Hummels. Or even Ginter. I hope kimmich and goretzka plays together, and need Gosens to be bit more careful about Saka. Kroos was a bit caught out too often too so either Gorezkta plays alongside instead of Gundogan would be good thing.
I still cant think how this plays out but if its open game I suspect Germany to be a good threat up front but they could risk at the back as well.

We are far superior to Germany. Nearly in every position.
Comfortable 0-0 and then going out on pens

Most of them are still very young though. They don't seem ready yet now, but they would be better next year and in the future.
But they could very well bulldoze every team 1-0 also

Most goals in the tournament were scored by Serie A (25) and Bundesliga (21) players
