oh piss off pls with this bullshit. All day i've had to deal with people making out as if Willian is some trash washed player - he has basically been Chelsea's best player since the restart along with Pulisic.
Don't compare him to that slowass bum Mkhitarayn.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Think the concern with Willian is the PTSD we have of players on high wages declining to the point that they massively burden our ability to buy.
But if this deal happens and he helps us qualify for the Champions League next season, I don't think we'll be too worried about how much he's making.

Mkhi is still at Arsenal? How much frikking deadwood do we have? I just saw some Elneny to Turkey links - honestly can't recall his face any more
Btw, how many defenders do we have? I didn't know we have Soares and Mari for example - I could only recall Sokratis, Holding, Chambers, Luiz, Bellerin, Tierney, Kolasinac, ... AMN?

Read that as well-prostituted and was like damn times are hard.
Always like defenders from ligue 1. Physically closest to PL. They rarely disappoint.

I wonder if this is for sporting reasons or straight clean up for post pandemic restructure.

Departures of Cagigao, McDermott & Clark were indeed the tip of the iceberg. Senior scouts covering France/Belgium, Spain, Italy and Germany have also been told by Arsenal that they are no longer needed today. #AFC

Yeah, especially the France scouts need not be only fired, but disbarred from exercising their profession tbh
If you think that from the endless, non-stop exuberant French top talent generating assembly line of the last 10 years, a land of milk and honey where there's enough exciting young players for everyone and you just have to pluck them from the academies, everyone can have one, or two, as many top talents as you can carry, they managed to find Guendouzi and Yaya Sanogo.

That would be Gilles Grimandi who was working as scout/ chief scout for Arsene/ Arsenal from 2006 to 2019, also still held a grudge against Raul.
As for these scout department clear out, it looks more and more like complete restructure/ rebuild and using Covid as an excuse.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The same thing happened to the academy. Mertesacker and Edu did a big review and cleared out a lot of old scouts.
Source: https://www.goal.com/en/news/revealed-cagigaos-shock-arsenal-axe-a-result-of-edu/u505wxc5zn5w1vzoy710obbss
There's also this article, claiming Mislintat planned on reducing the size of his team when he was at the club and that academy scouting has benefited from streamlining:
https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/transfer-news/arsenal-transfer-news-sanllehi-cagigao-18725398
Appraising scouting is difficult because we don't know how many recommendations are signed. For example, we haven't signed young talent from Belgium at all, but is that because the scouts aren't finding it, or because the recruitment team is passing them up?
Or, is it a case of the recruitment team struggling to make quick decisions and losing out on talent, because there's too much noise? Senior staff at the club have commented on the sheer number of people working at the club before. Perhaps this explains the slowness of Arsenal's transfer business in the past.
Then there's Brexit. One scenario is that signing European players under the age of 16 is going to be tougher than ever, so Arsenal may look at older players floating between youth and first team football.
Who knows, really? Too much going on for me to parse it all properly. We'll just have to wait and see.
------------------------
Anyway, some rumours.
- Maitland-Niles has been told he can leave, but Arteta wants to keep him
- Torreira wants to leave; Milan, Fiorentina and Torino all linked
- Willian signing seems just a matter of time now
- Club confident Auba will sign a three-year deal; assuming Barca doesn't make an approach
- More links with Gabriel Megalhaes ; could cost 30m
- New links to James Rodriguez from AS

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Liverpool players work because Klopp is a world class coach who can turn ElNeny into a champion. Put half that team under another manager and they will struggle.
Saying that the old scout system only worked since Wenger had a good eye and the ability to make a decent youngster into a very good player. It didn't serve us that well either.

Honestly can't believe we signed 0 Belgians or Italian kids in the last 20 years. Other than Mannone i guess.
Maybe it's difficult because of relocation. I mean Juve have the monopoly on most of the talent so maybe it's harder for us.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We will have 9 CB's in the squad if we sign gabriel. We will have to let go of atleast 4. I would seek PL loans for Holding and chambers (in january). Sell both Sokratis and Mustafi (although he is injured). Also we need a tierney backup so keeping kolasinac as back up LB or if possible sell kola and sign Malang Sarr free as he can play both LB and CB.
Luiz will leave next year until then we can decide if one of holding/chambers/mavropanos can take up his place. We can have our defence sorted for next 5 or 10 years if these youngsters fulfil the expected potential.
Bellerin and Cedric as RB choices.

Look, I'm not saying that Willian is a shit player because he isn't, but neither is Mkhitaryan. Going for older players can work at times but it seems like a compromise type of choice when nobody knows if he will still be good in 2 years and here we are, handing him this big 3 year contract. I won't sit here and pretend like Willian will make no impact because I'm sure he will, but it's not a signing to get overly excited about imo because it could backfire over time if he becomes an Ozil-esque presence. I would rather spend those wages on guys who will make an impact for years to come, or at least offload more of our expensive deadweight before signing an older guy like Willian to such a deal.
If signing him does not infringe on us going out and getting the CMs we need or a CB, then okay, great.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Willian - Just awaiting official confirmation, has said goodbye to Chelsea.
Aubameyang - Seems he'll extend? No new updates.
Maitland-Niles - Interest from two unnamed PL teams and a Bundesliga club.
Lacazette - Some interest from Juventus; Arsenal could be interested in a swap or sale for right price.
Coutinho - Has gone cold. Sources in Spain say no interest from Arsenal. The Athletic says Arsenal currently not looking for a deal.
Partey - Still considered a top target for the club but no new updates.
Gabriel - Reportedly has offers from Arsenal, Everton, Man Utd and Napoli; expected to make his decision soon.
Ceballos - Nothing new.
Ozil - Nothing new.
Guendouzi - Suggestion that PSG might be interested, but links are tentative.
