Nord Stream/Nord Stream 2
US Ambassadors in some EU countries and probably some EU nations have voiced their reservations, resentments regarding the proposed gas pipeline between Russia and Germany. Their opposition is centered around two points:
1. It would make Europe/Western Europe dependent on Russian gas and poses an energy security.
2. By bypassing the land route through some Eastern European countries, it makes those countries vulnerable to Russian domination/intimidation.
I'm not sure how a pipeline through their territory will help some countries stand up against Russia. If the WEST want to deter Russia they have to stop buying, doesn't matter where the pipeline really is.
Regarding energy security, well Russia is the closest and most viable source of energy for Western Europe. They (WE) might have had an alternative source/pipeline from North Africa, but they (NA) are busy killing each other ATM.
So, what is/are the real issues here???

Re: Nord Stream/Nord Stream 2
Real issue is that USA is butthurt that we aren't buying their expensive and dirty fracking gas and that we won't be paying Russian gas with Dollars but with Euros.
Instead of meddling in civilized countries internal affairs, USA should start with first world education in their own country so that 10 % of their population stops believing that chokolade milk comes from brown cows.

Re: Nord Stream/Nord Stream 2
German authorities have said that the damage to three of the four Nord Stream pipelines is beyond repair and those sections can never be used again.
The twin Nord Stream 1 & 2 pipelines, which are made up of two pipes each, were hit by an explosion at the weekend and sprang leaks that saw pressure in both sets of pipelines fall to nothing.

We do not know who blew them up, but it does benefit Russia for two reasons:
#1 They can keep not supplying gas to Europe without breaking any contracts
#2 Germany was going to abandon the project anyway because of the Ukraine war, and this way, the Russian government can blame the end of development on terrorism instead of their own actions.
As BC said, the US also didn't want Nordstream2 to happen, but it was already stopped by Germany through diplomacy.

Re: Nord Stream/Nord Stream 2
Ok so whats Germany gonna do now about buying gas, they will just keep getting it from Russia anyway or find other suppliers?
I try best to stay on top of things since I have to pretty much ignore the domestic bs propaganda I get spammed daily here, but without totally blindly believing one side though, in todays world of each side pointing the finger at each others, its always better to know more from more ppl

Nothing, really. We're a bit fucked.
We've been in talks with Tunisia, Libya, and Azerbaijan for gas and oil. Long term it'll have to be wind and solar. Mid term possibly nuclear. Short term coal.
I mean in the end we got a lot of gas from Russia, but not all of it, we can buy gas from other countries, and we're also reducing our gas consumption, so basically we'll lose some money for a bit. Probably still better than being open to blackmail from the Kremlin.

That is commendable!
