Villarreal CF, founded in 1923, is a Liga BBVA club from a city of the same name (Villarreal) which resides in the Castellon province of Spain. Villarreal first gained promotion to Liga BBVA in 1998. They are often referred to as El Submarino Amarillo (the yellow submarine).

Reached the Champions League semifinals in 2005/06 and quarterfinals in 2008/09, losing to Arsenal on both occasions. Ended as runners-up in La Liga season 2007/08 behind Real Madrid. Reached the semi-finals in the Europa League last season (2010/11) but got knocked-out by FC Porto. Finished 4th last season (2010/11) in La Liga. Villarreal have yet to win a big trophy.

Villarreal off-load Capdevila and Altidore

Benfica have acquired 33 year-old Spain international Capdevila on a two year deal while Dutch team Az Alkmaar signed U.S. striker Jozy Altidore.
