His comparison with the Roma announcers were off.

Either way I can’t get mad at him losing his job. It wasn’t only the Kawhi stuff. He’s been unprofessional for years taking unnecessary shots at everyone and creating an overall bad feeling during broadcasts.

I’d guess the Kawhi stuff was the straw.

The reality is nothing really changed, if we look like a contender he'll most likely stay and if we don't he'll leave.

That's been the case ever since he signed the contract a few years back.

Also anyone who thinks we are even considering a trade before next summer is an absolute moron.

A trade now would guarantee infinitely more in return though. You could kill a team right now by taking enough assets. If there's less than a year left on his contract he can basically command other teams to not trade for him.

Why would we trade a future MVP because we might get an extra pick before he even wants it lol?

Look what Spurs got from a similar level player in Kawhi.

They got a useless player in Derozan, Poetl and a 1st.
Ridiculous bad return.

2 years left right now could give a return worth it since he's still under a deal that the team he's traded to can use.

1 year left never gets a good return. Unless it's Melo being a retard and forcing Knicks to trade everything for him.

Personally I'd trade Davis if I were the Pelicans. Then stockpile draft picks in the trade together with young players on rookie deals.

They're never going to win a championship with Davis when they can't draw another superstar to play with him.

Yeah but the thing you're missing here is he doesn't want to leave.

Why would we trade a guy early when the guy in question has gave no indication they want to leave?

He may want to leave if we suck but no one in the team is going to think like that.

Until he turns down the Supermax we aren't trading him, anyone that thinks otherwise are just not using their brains properly.

You can win if you hit in three years in the draft in a row. It's when you got a player of his caliber and don't draft well, don't get FAs and you're too good to get a top pick that you end up in a good situation.

It's a curse to have a player as good as him who doesn't take time to develop, because he makes your own team too good to get a top pick.

Also doesn't help that New Orleans keep trading their picks away. Like seriously. Their only 1st round pick since Davis has been Buddy Hield and he was traded right away Laughing

Nah I completely disagree, literally every pick we gave up was worse than the player we traded for except for Asik.

If you're going to criticise us for something it's overpaying on role players not giving up picks.

What. Giving up 6th overall and 10th overall for Jrue?
Giving up Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans and 10th overall in 2017 (Would've realistically been Mitchell or Malik Monk).

I think they could've been better off if neither of their trades were done.
They're good trades if you want to be a low seed playoff team.
But if you've got any hope of competing, this isn't how it's done.

2008 Lakers? I think GSW and OKC did it perfectly. The latter perfectly until they started to overthink it and ruin everything for themselves. LeBron was so elite that he made drafting years in a row the only viable option to beat him.

I don't see how it's ever been a valid strategy since. They should've kept the picks and gotten some younger pieces to build around Davis so they'd eventually compete.

But Pelicans have literally traded all their 1st rounders since drafting him. And first round players are the most valuable assets in all of NBA.

We're paying Kuzma and Hart a combines 3m each year for the next three years.

You can't just trade that away for a player like Jrue Holiday who at the time was a fringe all star in the East. And Demarcus Cousins who didn't fit in theory with Davis and hadn't shown he could be a good influence.
The Jrue probably was fine since those drafts were trash.

Without the Boogie trade Pelicans could've had Jrue - Mitchell/Monk - Hield - Randle - Davis

I just don't like trading 1st rounders.
The Lakers were incredibly lucky we had the protections and somehow managed to trigger them each year. We'd be f'ed if they hadn't been on.

Also Mitchell is the only one that you mentioned which is even close to acceptable lol and we probably wouldn't have drafted him.

Hield is trash and Monk doesn't even start in the NBA yet lol.

Draft picks are genuinely very overrated, Lakers did well but in general most barely even contribute.

Draft picks aren’t overrated. They’re what can make you compete.

What is overrated is getting a fringe all star in FA or via trade that demands a max contract. And when you don’t have draft picks it’s hard to find solid players with your current cap space.

Draft picks are the best value you can get. A player like Kuzma or Josh Hart in FA right now would be 10-15m and we get them for one.

That’s why I won’t include anyone in trades when they got so many years left on rookie deals.

Congratulations you found exceptions to the rule.

Realise though that the large majority of draft picks between 11 and 30 are utter crapshoots.

The fact you were arguing for Buddy Hield and Malik Monk says it all.

In the scenario you paint we are arguably worse off and still don't have cap space to sign FAs which is literally the best thing about draft picks outside the top 10.
