Re: 2018/2019 Premier League Discussion
He ditched Schalke because he was convinced the big boys really wanted him. Ended up at Palace.
In all seriousness, it's not the worst move for him. He'll be on good money and if his form is good he can easily move up the league. And he gets to play for Roy Hodgson, of course.

Re: 2018/2019 Premier League Discussion
Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Germany international midfielder Max Meyer on a three-year contract.
Meyer was a free agent after leaving Bundesliga club Schalke at the end of last season, with Sky Sports News reporting on July 31 that he was in talks with Palace.
The 22-year-old becomes the Eagles' third summer arrival following Vicente Guaita's signing and Cheikhou Kouyate's switch from West Ham.
3 year deal so after the first year palace wont have much bargaining time to sell him for big money if he does well. still say liverpool should have signed him on a free.

Just saw the Hart-to-Burnley rumour in the other thread and made me think that Burnley don't seem to have signed any 1st-team players even though they would be in the EL if they beat Adebayor's Turkish club. Kinda weird from a PL club, most of them make one or two meaningful signings, but Burnley with potential Euro footy haven't made any signings yet.

Re: 2018/2019 Premier League Discussion
lads, hype levels for the new season on a scale of 1-10? so close we can almost taste it now.
Have to imagine this is a strange feeling for you Arsenal fans. Hope it works out for you, just not at the expense of United.
I'd say Mole and I are in similar boats, but at least we have some elite players. Can't say I'm much looking forward to watching United specifically, but I'm glad to have the season back.

Re: 2018/2019 Premier League Discussion
It's the first season in about a decade where I genuinely don't know how things are going to go, and that's both exciting and nerving. We could be anywhere between a train wreck and a revelation, but this beats out predictability every time.
What's going to be annoying throughout the season will be the "it was never Wenger's fault to begin with" narrative that will undoubtedly come up the moment we go through a bad spell. I fear that whatever positivity we have now won't survive and people will turn on Emery very quickly if things don't go well. Playing City and Chelsea up front is the worst possible start in that sense. Lose both and he'll already be in trouble.
As for the season as whole, I can't say I'm too hyped. I can't see anything but City walking the league again and it's mostly going to be the other five big teams bullying the rest of the league. I think Wolves and Fulham can definitely upset a few this season, though, so I look forward to that.

Re: 2018/2019 Premier League Discussion
I think us Pool fans' hype levels must be up there with the highest. A CL final last season, lots of money spent in the summer. The only thing holding my own hype level back a little is how strong Man City are.
However, for the Prem in general, it's looking to me like a lot of the teams are going to be shite. I hope I'm wrong.

Swansea off to a good start in the championship.
19 year old Yan Dhanda scoring the winner for them on his debut.

Dhanda looks an awful lot like Benayoun. Must be the hair or something.
Surprisingly, Jefferson Montero played. I remember when he forced Chambers into early retirement.

Dhanda wants to play for India if we remove the dual nationality limit
But we didn't remove the limitation for Michael Chopra, I doubt he'd get a chance ever as well.

So cringe. Why do PL clubs keep on hiring these melts that cannot even effectively communicate with the players? Literally the only high level job you can get in Brexit Kingdom without being able to speak the language.

Re: 2018/2019 Premier League Discussion
Going by Leeds' performance today, I don't think communication is an issue for him.
It's likely a case of him speaking limited English everywhere else but not feeling comfortable enough yet to speak on national television.
It was exactly the same with Pochettino, yet he had no issue getting his ideas across to his Southampton team.

Should we have a separate thread for championship since there are many feuds and mini-arcs this season?

Such a thread would probably be buried for most of the time, but on the other hand if that stuff gets posted in the Prem thread is won't get any meaningful attention. Hope this helps.

Separate thread and then sticky it perhaps just like the new Man Utd and Inter threads.

Details from last night of NUFC players threatening not to fulfil media commitments with rights-holders amid bonus dispute with Mike Ashley. Today they have followed through with that threat & refused to do pre-season shots for broadcasters. What a mess. https://t.co/wP7Y30ojUX

Good, about time the players put pressure on that fat wanker.
But there's a lot more to it than that tweet suggests, short term is it's about fat wanker given out broken promises again among other things.
Even if he doesn't give a shit i love seeing Rafa and the players band against him.
Nobody gives a shit about the season anyway.

Specking of language/communication, I often wondered how managers and players manage to get the message across, specially during the heat of a game???Art Morte wrote:So cringe. Just look at the plethora of languages players speak in a single game:
Alisson (Portuguese)
Clyne (English) Lovren (Croatian) VVD (Dutch) Robertson (English, with Scottish accent off-course)
Fabinho (Portuguese)
Naby (French) Lallana (English)
Salah (Arabic) Firmino (Portuguese) Mane (French)

Re: 2018/2019 Premier League Discussion
A lot of players, especially those coming from abroad, are multi-lingual. For those that aren't, it's not difficult to learn a few key words in English that you can use during a game.
If that fails, grunting and pointing remains the universal language everyone can understand.

Just had a look at NUFC's first few fixtures. Rafa will have to pull off a miracle to not have them in the relegation zone by the end of matchweek 10.
I'm praying for you mole.

We finished 10th last season with an inferior team
I'm not concerned about that, i quite frankly don't care. What's going off the field is far more important.
