"Cutthroat elite football"? Are we still talking about the same club that drew MGB and lost to Shakhtar at home? That "elite football"?

I, too think Vinicius has been poor, but that's also the case for everybody else bar Ramos and Courtois. So maybe Benzema should take a long, hard look in the mirror before criticizing someone else.

Nick's key point is what I resonate with. Vinicius is a mere prospect and not a future superstar (unless he somehow stops dribbling into dead-ends) as Real Madrid fans hold high standards infamously and the club does the same, subsequently. He isn't good enough for the team.

Problem is how Benz handled it as that is what must be pointed out. Of course he is nowhere near a leader but it should be directed at him, not whom he said it to.

No one should be sympathetic for Vini here, he just needs to do better. He is starting games for Madrid at 19, if he doesn’t do better someone else will take his place and it doesn’t matter what Benzema says. He already struggles to get consecutive games and now Hazard is back.

honestly. it isnt a big deal......until it becomes a big deal.
with teammates in the trenches, imo anyone can say this to anyone regardless of status. not to mention we dont know whether or not benzema told vinicius he was effing up face to face

its only a big deal based on how the parties react, and that's where zidane comes in to smooth everything out should it get to that point. but we have more pressing problems than that. and some of these things its just that the camera catches them and all.

besides mendy still passed to vinicius afterwards, heat of the moment i guess. i'm not saying its great and lovely, but these things happen

1. Can we not all agree that speaking badly of another person right in front of them in a different language is a dick move? Is this really a controversial statement?

2. Is Benz supposed to get a pass because he was too dumb to notice the cameras?

3. Why is anyone defending Benz after he blackmailed his own teammate ffs? the guy is trash through and through

I can only conclude none of you ever ever played in an elite team setting. Trash and shit talking goes on all the time. I take the comment that Vini has to improve and play more with his teammates. This endless dribbling ending with opposition having ball is useless to team doing better.

If we hear anything about Vini being upset about it, then maybe we can have this discussion.

Conclusion: Trash talk among team mates is common. Benz added his own ball-less, shady twist to it. No one should be surprised at this point, the guy avoids being direct whenever it’s an option.

It’s unfortunate that this gets leaked out to the public, but it’s also unfortunate that a guy in his 30s who’s not a stranger to being in the media spotlight for the wrong reasons, still doesn’t know how to keep himself out of it.

These things aren’t good for team spirit. Luckily, Benz is a trained professional at apologizing to team mates, at this point in his career.

the translations suck. What he says in French is « don’t pass him the ball anymore » that’s something you say when you play with your boys in the park. Same thing with « I swear he is playing against us »

The English translations are literal and tone deaf. I’m pretty sure he was just venting, because you see him explaining things to Vinicius a minute after. He wasn’t telling Mendy to never pass the ball to Vinicius, he was just expressing that Vinicius sucks lol. I have said those words before when playing with people in the park and it would t shock me if people said the same about me lol.

There is no for or against in this situation. Heat of the moment...vinicius needs to get better, and benzema n mendy need to play their socks off cos if they get off form, it leaves the window open for the same kind of critique

The bigger issue is how uninspiring we are playing. I flip channels during games a lot over the past 2 or 3 yrs and dont even feel like I've missed a thing. Hopefully we can get our act together....I'm not interested in playing in no freaking europa league
