Golden Goal?
should we bring back the golden ball?
there is an interesting debate going on in the us right now, obviously they lost the women finals on pks, and they are butthurt, so they keep on discussing the pks in football like it's a national issue.
in a more general sense, do you think it's something that should be brought back?
on a personal level, i love the golden goal, it's unbelievable drama and excitement at the end of the game.

Re: Golden Goal?
i was a big fan of the golden goal. it certainly made extra time more exciting. i think it is a fairer way to decide the winner of a match. to me a shootout is all about luck and confidence, but i am an englishman so of course id take anything over a shootout

Re: Golden Goal?
Personally i would rather penalty shoot out decide a match than golden goal.I never liked golden goal tbh.
They have golden goal rule in (Field) Hockey but i never likes.

Re: Golden Goal?
It may be exciting seeing someone score a goal in extra time to finish the game completely, but it's not as exciting as seeing a team score in extra time and desperately hold on until the very end to win IMO.
Also, when BOTH teams score in extra time then it makes things REALLY thrilling.

Re: Golden Goal?
how about they play
15mn of regular extra time,
if no winner, 15mn of golden ball
then pks

I am fan of Golden Goal even though Penalty shootouts make adrenaline rush through your body it is kinda a lame way to decide a match since the better team could easily lose.

Re: Golden Goal?
No,golden goal is unfair to our sport. If a fluke goal is scored as a golden goal, these people will start saying" we want extra time back"...lmao
Re: Golden Goal?
Silver goal is better.
Golden goal is too much sudden death.

penalty shootout is pretty much the same..teams playing not to concede until the penalty shootout arrives..
i mean there have been instances..both teams have hesitated to go for the jugular in some matches..
but chances of that happening will be pretty much less if the golden goal is reintroduced..

Re: Golden Goal?
point taken, but Dont you think golden goal is much more restricting teams from going out and get a result than shoot out?.Golden goal will be "fair"(for us fans) only if both teams are playing crap and we cant watch that crappy football for further 30 minutes (brazil vs paraguey lulz),then again if both teams are quality, extra time is definitely the better option for us fans.Surag.Blueguy wrote:Adit wrote:what entertainment again? teams playing not to concede and pull a fluke was never been exciting to me.

yes absolutely..u mentioned brazil vs paraguay was crappy football for 30 mins but it would have been a completely different scenario if there existed a golden goal rule..brazil would have obviously dominated posession and paraguay would have hit them on the break since they are known to be a very defensively organized team..in an attempt to score a golden goal , atleast we would see entertaining football in the process..
again as i said such kind of scenarios where both teams playing crappy football settling for penalties can be drastically reduced with the introduction of golden goal..

Re: Golden Goal?
first of all scrap the away goal rule after a two-legged cup match goes into overtime since it's unfair if one team has 30 more minutes to score the away goal...
