Well, not technically. All the Italians of Slovenia, Croatia (Istria) etc., were recognized as Italian by blood, so they were considered "rimpatriati" (repatrioted) after WW2 after most had to leave the Balkans. Even if they had lived in Istria or Slovenia for many generations. Note: Maldini is a pretty common name in Italy.

yes but the family name actually used to be Maldič, which is a traditional slovene surname. they were apparently assimilated when italy regained the territory in the early 20th century.
