Yeah, I really don't think "how backwards ass it is that the PS4 uses SATA2 for its storage interface or how the ethernet adaptor is crippled" is gonna prevent me from enjoying FFXV next month.

Re: General Games Discussion
RTSs (as in Real Time) haven't been a thing in like a decade. They're pretty nonexistent on consoles, but then again, when was the last time you had a groundbreaking one on PC? Turn Based is what it's all about nowadays. League of Legends? That's just what DOTA was when Warcraft frakking 3 was out. Years ago.
And come on, Phritz. To get those graphics you need some real juice under your hood. And that usually means hundreds of dollars on just a graphics card (and a good enough TV or monitor).
The loading time issue is like 80% because you're using an SSD... and one of those is like a third of a whole console price by itself.
Do you only play with headphones? I had my PC back home hooked up to some half decent Logitechs and let me tell you, those things were loud. I don't even play shooters too much, but having music full blast while you're passing turns is great fun. The shooters were amazing. Basically the noise complaint is not even a valid point against console users... because I'm a PC user and I like it loud.
PC will always be more powerful than PC, period. It balances out with what you're looking for. There are people who are more casual and with less money can get the same enjoyment.
One thing I hate about consoles are shooters, though. Goddamn, there's one thing a mouse will never replace. Playing shooters on consoles is like masturbating with your pinky and thumb. There's just no control nor grip. I still kick ass in Goldeneye, though.

Re: General Games Discussion
Its sad how RTS games started disappearing, the last great one I played was Company of Heroes, GOAT game. Starcraft 2 was good but not the most exciting outside of the story.
Same with point-and-click-adventure games. Those were straight up dead until telltale and a couple others brought it back. Grim Fandango and Monkey Island are some of my favorite games of any genre.

COH was incredible. Pretty much the last real RTS game. The genre's dead, IMO. There's only so much you can do under that format, and it's pretty much all done by now. At least turn based strategy is still very alive.
BTW, Grim Fandango has a remaster and so does Monkey Island and Gabriel Knight (great game, play it if you haven't). There are a lot of point and click games on Steam by indie developers. I don't know much about them, but I have heard there are a few gems.
One key factor PC gaming has really got over consoles: modding. There are some incredibly deep mods that add hours of gametime or can completely revolutionize a game. Example, for Medieval: Total War. Which BTW, it might have turn based elements, but the battles are all real time. I literally put in hundreds of hours of gametime into that game. Modded, of course. Mods make decent games into amazing ones, and completely free of charge. Nothing like conquering the world with frakking Genoa.
The day consoles have as much mod support as PC, the battle's over. Probably never going to happen, though. Greedy corporation$ , and all that.

The remastered version of Grim Fandango was free on PS plus, a few months ago.

Yeah about my main SSD being half the price of a console
As for noise I'm talking about the vacuum cleaners that they are, not the audio Got a z906 and surround sound + Witcher/Battlefield is glorious
Sorry if I came over so intense rincon, it's just I'm passionate about the subject not as a pc masterrace fanboy but because I'm vehemently against the closed ecosystem monopolies of consoles/Apple and especially because consoles have limited games and completely stunted growth in the 6th generation. It's the marketing, lies and over-promises and the hype that bother me the most.
As for mods - at least MS is being a little open - Sony pretty much says no. Mods have inspired entire genres and game series - heck the entire modern warfare fad can be traced back to Battlefield 1942's Desert combat. Heck my first computer that I built myself can be traced back to Kobayashi Maru for ST Bridge Commander - I started retexturing ships and next thing I know I'm using those Photoshop/image editing skills to land me cheques of $1000 at 17 years of age.
- full cost of my storage setup:
512GB Samsung 950 Pro - 336EU (2.5GBs)
2x 256GB Vector 180's in RAID 0 - 2x122EU (1.1GBs)
2TB WD Black - 132EU (260MBs)
2x 512GB Seagate Barracudas - 2x80EU (160MBs)

It's so worth it though - the spinning thing on the Windows boot screen doesn't even load - my Bios starts up, then shows the windows logo for a second or two and then BAM login screen. Then there's just all the time you save, I've been spoiled and can never go back to loading screens.
I regret my GPU purchase more

I have a regular Samsung SSD on my PC and I thought that was fast enough for me.
I do imagine once you get used to that level of speed... everything else is just irritating. It happened to me after working under an SSD for a while and then troubleshooting my parent's Celeron .
Just curious, how much did that whole setup cost you?
And on the mod thing, I'd say it goes even farther back than that: Counter-Strike was available in 1999. Pretty much any half modern shooter has its roots there. Overwatch was born from Team Fortress, which was a Quake 2 mod originally...
I don't have anything against consoles, but modding is freedom and innovation. Modding is life. It's amazing what modders do for free.

Re: General Games Discussion
I can't believe I completely blanked on CS starting as a mod
As for my setup
You could actually build a system with the same gaming performance for less than half the price - but mine's also a workstation so I had to splurge on the x99 platform plus I bought some other superfluous things (LED RAM )
Third Age Total War (Medieval Total War II)
Stainless Steel (Medieval Total War II)
Kobayashi Maru (ST Bridge Commander)
Skyrim The Journey (Skyrim)
MedianXL (Diablo II)
Fall From Heaven 2 (Civ 4)
Rhyse and Fall of Civilization (Civ 4)
PESpatch (PES series)
The list of mods that rival/surpass AAA releases is astounding and I could go on and on - I'm a sucker for mods
My Peripheral costs are about to almost straight up double though, I'm buying this baby as my personal christmas present:

Razer Blackwidow Ultimate - 140EU
Razer Firefly 70EU (literally just because I can, and I actually like it)
Xbone Elite controller - 130EU
Xbone Lunar White Controller with wireless adapter - 80EU

Re: General Games Discussion
That's one sweet rig. If a Star Destroyer were one day turned into a PC, that would be it.
I at first asked myself, "why two monitors?". Then I saw What a mancave FFS.
Stainless Steel... oh god, that was the mod I put hundreds of hours into. Just class.
I've played the first 4, all high quality total conversions. I wasted far too much time with Fallout/Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim mods. Pretty much any half decent RPG has mods which are like sequels or complete games by themselves. Like the Mechwarrior conversion for Crysis, just crazy.
Anyways I gotta ask... do you ever lag with that rig? Can it pull off 4k?

Re: General Games Discussion
I can 4k the most demanding games - 50fps not my cup of tea though and I prefer ultra-wide it's gotten to the point where how you see old 4:3 monitors/TV's is the same way I see 16:9 now
Lag? I think I remember what that is
I think for me the most attractive thing about mods is how they're constantly trying to improve and change - a quality game devs (or should I say publishers in most cases) seem to neglect recently. It was so refreshing to boot up Skyrim recently and see how things like SkyUI have improved since I the last time i played Skyrim and I tried playing Special Edition but the vanilla Skyrim interface makes the game unplayable.
It doesn't even need to be total conversions though - small mods like Better Messagebox controls (skyrim) that allow you to navigate dialogue options with wasd eliminates jarring frustrations.

Smash Life is Strange on the lead up to Final Fantasy IMO. Nice chill game you can take at your own pace. Think I played an episode every day or two
One of the reasons I am skipping Watch Dogs 2, would probably beat it a few days before FFXV and don't wanna burn myself out. Bought Battlefield 1 and Fifa to play casually until Final Fantasy
