Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Finished it yesterday. It was really good. Somewhat too open of a ending. Tough watch though, expected since it's about suicide

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
3 episodes into 13 Reasons Why. The show started well with the mystery. I enjoy a good mystery. But I'm already seeing where this is going. Predictable mystery is meh.
PS. High school kids do not talk like this hollywood, Jesus. When are they going to get it right.

- Spoiler:
- Hopefully there's more to this show than bullying, slut shaming, stalking etc. I'll be disappointed as hell if these are the big factors behind the suicide.

Finished 13 Reasons Why.
Man episodes 12 and 13 are heavy as *bleep*. It's a heavy heavy show. Starts out as a mystery, they drag it out way too much in the middle and it kind of gets boring but the end is powerful.

I can't believe they actually showed the suicide. I thought I was ready to see it but *bleep* man I had to stop the scene because I started getting light headed. Felt like my own wrists were slit and I was draining blood, that's how heavy it is. Her screams were painful. And the parents finding the body got my eyes watery.
Unbelievable acting in that scene from the girl and the parents.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
I needed a book to read so I started reading 13 Reasons Why after seeing all the hype for the show online. The tone is typical young adult but its one of those books you can't keep down. You keep want to hearing whats on the next tape and especially wtf Clay did to get himself on the list. I finished half of it already, will probably finish it tonight.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Same thing with the show. I binged it in 3 days. I kept wanting to see why the hell Clay was on the tape.
Got very emotional at the end. For whatever reason it affected me deeply. I usually don't care about high school drama but the theme in this is universal. I should rephrase it, it's a drama that's set in high school rather being a high school drama.
I wouldn't recommend this show. And not because it's not good. But because it's very draining emotionally. It's a depressing show albeit very good. Like there's no climax or emotional reward or anything at the end. It's just depressing. If you want to feel like shit for a few days you should definitely watch it.

RE: 13 reasons why ending
- Spoiler:
- WHAT AN UNSATISFYING ENDING! I can only assume that they left so many things unresolved for a 2nd season which is BULL, this show is perfect for 13 episodes and no more. Show is completely ruined by the ending.
Up to that point I thought it was a solid show, perfect for netflix where you feel like you just have to watch the very next episode right now rather than a traditional once a week show where the idea might have grown stale fast.
Some of the tapes struck me as petty and/or hypocritical, though. For instance she blames tall asian bball player for not speaking up in class and letting everyone think Skye was suicidal, when there are a million instances where she freezes up herself. She very rarely accepted responsibility for her errors, and while it's true she was often the victim, once that whatever happened to her she rarely sought to resolve it and preferred to simply cut people off entirely

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Did anyone notice that more and more shows are taking breaks between seasons that is more than one year? Is it because production is getting more high end?
Game Of Thrones (okay, producers said shooting started late because the show is gonna be set at winter)
Fargo
Westworld
Atlanta
Better Call Saul
Stranger Things
Master Of None
All shows that I know of that took/are taking breaks for around one and a half year.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
The reason is probably due to many reasons. The main reason being all the main people in those projects are doing a bunch of different things.
It also takes time to make quality stuff. So it's a bit of both. Unlike what networks do, where they churn out 22 episodes per season. That's just cancerous. Cba watching 22 episode seasons of anything anymore.

Re: The TV Series Thread - Part 5
Game Of Thrones: They're probably taking their time to finish off right. Also takes longer to write when they can't follow the books? (I guess). Scheduling could also be a reason as the stars get more popular.
Fargo: Noah Hawley was a busy man making Legion.
Westworld: Production of season 1 was a mess and they weren't prepared for season 2 because they needed to figure out how succesful it wouldbecome
Atlanta: Donald Glover's schedule is probably the only reason this doesn't come out this year. Star Wars, Lion King and a music career.
Better Call Saul: don't know anything about this show.
Stranger Things: Seems like this was the same case as Westworld where they weren't expecting that big of a succes.
Master Of None: Aziz has a pretty hectic schedule with his stand up I think.
Overall I don't mind them taking time to make the best stuff they can make. There's already so much stuff out there to consume that you don't want to waste time with rushed television.

Also I think having a break of more than 12 months isn't unusual for shows like Fargo (shows that have a completely new cast and storyline every season).

Reason for GOT is because it's gonna be set at winter they started shooting late for a more accurate atmosphere.

I don't watch anything that has more than 13 episodes a season. Don't have time to commit to something that long.

I'd be fine watching 22 episodes if the eps were 20-25 mins like Entourage was and all anime.

Even 13 is quite a lot. Think all the netflix super hero shows (they have 13 right?) would have benefited from having less episodes.

Well sitcoms are different. Because most are only 20 minutes long 25 episodes per season equals roughly 12-13 episodes in time wasted if they were regular length shows.
Like for example I'm on an endless cycle of rewatching The Office and Seinfeld. They don't ever get boring and the episodes are super short. It's great as background noise.

Yea agreed. Cba with 23 episodes tv shows anymore unless sitcoms/animated shows/anime. 13 is fine.
Rather have 5 quality shows of 13 episodes in a year than 20 average shows of 23 episodes

The trick is to watch 1 or 2 at a time. I always struggle to watch shows when I'm watching too many at the same time.
