Re: General UK politics
How all the Brexit thing goes will define the next election, speculating about other stuff seems moot.

Re: General UK politics
Right wing leaders have to make dumb statements because majority of their followers are dumb, racist, illiterate , homophobic fools who can only be impressed by these kinds of statements. Right wing leaders know that intellectuals are a minority and majority can be easily manipulated.
Re: General UK politics
Plenty of them are, sure.
But also lumping in your average working class people with dumb, racist, illiterate homophobic fools like most liberals and mainstream media do is part of the reason this crap is happening globally.

we could see Britain America france and Germany governed by right wing leaders very soon. so that would mean 4 of the most powerful nations on earth are nothing more than a bunch of dumb racist illiterate homophobe fools. if that's the case then what hope is there for the rest of the world.Adit wrote:Right wing leaders have to make dumb statements because majority of their followers are dumb, racist, illiterate , homophobic fools who can only be impressed by these kinds of statements. Well if anything Brexit and US elections are proof that the supposed first world is first world only in infrastructure and living standards. The average intellectual ability of the population is not much better than third world despite their education. Majority means right is a extremely wrong policy. Majority don't have any ability to understand the consequences of climate change, so they believe pos like Trump.
You can only imagine the thinking capacity of population who actually believes climate change is a propaganda. They don't even understand globalization. Their lose of jobs is INEVITABLE. rest of the world HAS CAUGHT UP with them. It no longer make sense for corporates to pay 10 times more for a tool maker when they can make it for less for the same quality product in Asia. Western countries working class needs to come to terms with the reality. It is only going to get worse from now on as more and more former third world Countries are now producing stuff once only the developed world produced. Anything that doesn't require much R&D cost is now made in Asian countries for much much lesser pay. Bringing tariff doesn't work. It means the countries will bring tariff for the Western products like aircrafts, software's, cars, machines etc. It's just inevitable thing in economics. Economics clearly says that rest of the world will catch up as you, me everyone one else will have same life style that of a person in Uganda (no offence) one day. Either accept it or let politicians use your denial for them to get power. Trump makes his clothes in China but hey he was bringing jobs back right? I mean only in America can a presidential candidate talk one thing and do the exact opposite and yet people vote for him.

So, do you support elitist democracy instead of democracy, then? Yes or no, pls.
We've had Brexit and Trump emerge victorious this year. That's too many people to be labeled simply as racist, illiterate and dumb. There's much more at play than that - or maybe there isn't if you don't want to look for it.

Re: General UK politics
Re Trump and climate change, I can't claim to know how it will go and i remain skeptical at best and morose at worst about how climate change policy will go during his years in office, but here is what one Berkeley professor believes
http://www.newsweek.com/quora-question-will-republicans-fight-climate-change-524694
He has some good points--certainly if the US can shift back towards nuclear again, this is a highly effective way to help fight climate change or at least cut emissions while we eventually move towards more efficient renewable energy. The Democrats view on nuclear is awful. I'm undecided regarding fracking as I don't know much about it.

Re: General UK politics
Elitist in a sense that educated People's democracy? Such thing doesn't exist since their size will always be minor in any country. I do not support the silicone valley getting richer while Detroit getting poorer democracy but that is inevitable. Human civilization has always been like this and always will be. Those jobs that doesn't require innovation and efforts to master will cease to exist.Art Morte wrote:

Portugal and Spain got richer than others when they started making ships that can travel thousands of miles. Then British copied them and in addition then invented engine and industrial revolution and they overtook the former easily. Then rest of Europe copied Britain and some innovated and overtook them (Germany) then japan and U.S copied entire European technology and added digital innovation and overtook everyone. Rest of the world were in turmoil so wages rose very high until 2000 in those countries. Now every country has caught up in basic technologies. The basic worker no longer justifies getting paid 10 times more for doing less hours than someone in Asia or Africa.
THIS IS FREE MARKET. Things are only going to get worse for developed countries unless they invent a game changer. Only thing these countries can do is tax the rich a bit higher and give adequate unemployment benefits to the other section.
Re: General UK politics
So labour just lost their seat in Cumbria which they held for 80 years....
A very telling sign of changing tides in the north. People are pretty much losing hope in Labour and are willing to trust Conservatives instead. It obviously also has a strong connection with the rise of far right movement and it has influenced a lot of people who were on the edge before. Considering how UKIP voters are moving towards conservative party since their interests are mutual and that they got what they achieved with brexit, it is 99% safe to say that conservatives will pretty much win the next 2 elections.
Labour party is more interested in getting rid of Corbyn than doing anything for their voters. Conservatives don't even have to do anything. Labour party is doing well enough in destroying themselves.
Bleak times if you are a labour voter.

Re: General UK politics
Lib dems and specially Nick Clegg were basically the bernie sanders of UK back in 2010 elections. They had the support of pretty much everyone between the ages of 18-26. Those who didn't like either of labour/conservatives were more than happy to vote for lib dems because they offered things neither party did. Big promises.
But... they betrayed everyone. Joined conservatives despite promising not to. Had 0 power in the coalition government. David Cameron treated Clegg as nothing but his bitch. Openly mocked all the promises lib dems made to the people.
2015 elections and lib dems were annihilated. The party is finished. No one takes them seriously anymore. All their supporters went to green/labour/SNP or even conservatives.
The worrying thing is, if Theresa may calls a general election tomorrow. Same thing will happen to labour. The morale and support for labour has never been this low.
Scotland are happy with SNP so they are fine.

Even with that in kind it still feels like the only reasonable choice

Re: General UK politics
Yea it does. Their ideology is still preferable over both labour and conservatives. But they need to do something miraculous to gain back support. Tim Farron is a joke and hardly someone who wil ldo that.

What kind of parents name their kid David Davis? Truly outrageous stuff
I think if Scotland were to leave the Union a 60% majority should be required, 50% +1 is no consensus

Re: General UK politics
well I might of over done it but its like this. the tax payers in Britain keep England irelant scotland and wales working the same as tax money does in every country most of the tax money comes from England because we are bigger and richer than the rest but Scotland ( I will admit this could be wrong now because things change quickly ) use more money in tax than they pay into the tax fund so they were running at a loss. so Scotland need the rest of the UK.Hapless_Hans wrote:Unique wrote:if they want to eat and stay alive the scots wont leave. it costs the tax payers in the uk more money to keep scotland than Scotland pay in tax.BarrileteCosmico wrote:Would they really leave?
