Barcelona sporting director Albert Soler has revealed the club had an agreement with Juventus to sign Paul Pogba before but were blown out of the water by Manchester United’s offer.

United paid Juventus an initial £89million to re-sign Pogba this summer, with the midfielder returning to the club he left in 2012.

But Soler claims Barcelona had first refusal on the France international after striking an agreement following the 2014/15 season.

“Last year we reached an agreement with Juventus: if they wanted to sell Pogba we would have a priority,” he said. “That was the commitment that we had. Juve did not want to sell the player and we didn’t have the need to sign him.

“Barcelona has always had a great relationship with Juventus. If we would have wanted to do the deal, nobody could advance us.

“We signed six players with €120million. If one club can pay €120m for one player [it] will be very difficult to sign great players.”

Barcelona ended the transfer window by signing Valencia striker Paco Alcacer in a €30million deal.

Let it go dude.  Man U is a publicly owned company.  They cannot lie about finances...  it's literally against the law if they do it.  NYSE no less so they are under SEC regulations in the United States. If they were privately held like almost all the other clubs, no problem.

That's the big reason Barca got into trouble for lying about Neymar's transfer fee.  Although they are not publicly traded and don't have that stringent level of disclosure, they still answer publicly given they are a type of public entity.  They lied to the tax authorities too, which made it even worse.

He did.  All Man City did was put 2-3 guys around him and and foul everytime he got through.  Since Mourinho NEVER playsbuild up through his CMs (always the AM and wings), he ended being isolated.

It's not like the opponent have to worry about Fellaini creating anything so they just double or triple down on Pogba.

He was rarely open to get the ball. They just took him out by simply crowding his area with players.

Pogba cant be good in a double pivot, it's not rocket science, he will not consistently impact big games playing that position, thus his mediocre display today

The Anderson treatment

You can't impact a game in a double pivot when Pep's team has 5 midfielders and your partner is Fellaini...  couldn't do it with Alonso, Ozil, Khedira, etc.  Every Mou midfield gets destroyed by a Pep midfield.  It's inevitable given how they set up.

You end up with 2 mids and the AM being completely isolated because they have 5-6 guys on the other side flooding their area.

At least with Madrid, you had the pressure from Ronaldo, Di Maria, Benzema, etc. that would eventually wear them down.  You had to respect those guys. Ibra doesn't move much and the players on the wings were an absolute joke.

Lots of overreacting on Pogba going on. He was not great today but he was not terrible either. Before that he had two great games for Utd.

This criticism reminds me of the De Bruyne criticism when he signed, I suppose the transfer fee causes this. In the end de Bruyne showed his class as I'm sure Pogba will continue to do.

You know its a bad display when Fellaini thoroughly outperforms you.

You certainly can when you make better decisions on the ball and moves off the ball to always be open for a pass. If we talk about theory then absolutely yes you can. But Pogba does not play that way and he showed terrible decision making on the ball today. And this city team doesnt even press as well yet as barca or bayern few years back.

No you can't.  You are forced to play it safe because you need to recover to play defense... so you can't really become too aggressive.  You're forced to try and get open in a very narrow space while outnumbered.

It might work if the two wing players could help build up and get closer to the CMs.  But Lingard and M----yan were awful and Rashford is a striker.  

Pep just plays the numbers game and looks at matchups.

Yes he has actually. He had 10 goals and 15 assist for Juve last season. Granted, he played a far more advanced position and it was a 352. So he had players a lot closer to him that he does at Man U... where there's a boulevard between the 2 mid players and defense/attack.

To me though, the issue is the support from the wing players. It was awful today.

De Bruyne has been put in a position to succeed though.

I really don't see how Pogba can do so consistently if he's play CM in a 4-2-3-1 alongside Fellaini lol.

especially against a Guardiola side Mole... it's impossible.  You could have Zidane out there and he'd get killed in that setup.

Sportczy is a master of building French players or Ligue1 players so take his views with a pinch of salt.

Some1 with a moderate technical level like Pogba can never be more than 60M player, I don't think any CM who doesn't contribute a lot of goals or assists is worth anything above 80M. This would go down as one of the most overpaid transfers.

The guy is okay but if Pep works his magic Gundogan will be outplaying him.

And honestly he had a pathetic game - Let us call a spade a spade rather than coming up with ridiculous justifications, I thought Herera was much better when he came on instead of Pogba.

The whole idea of Zidane is even more ridiculous considering Mourinho's sides has seen Ozil n Sneijder absolutely shine against Pep's Barca in a 10 role

He plays like a striker/winger accidentally playing as a midfielder. He needs to learn there is a thing called passing if he wants to succeed as one.
