Nobody is standing in his way anymore. Iniesta's legs have gone. The world has figured what kind of a fraud Pogba is. Modric has always been poor mans Verratti.

Now that the CL scrub Zlatan is gone, Verratti can finally lead his team to an actual CL challenge.

Messi proving he's a fraud as well, the door is open for a Balon D'Or run.

Different systems, different players, different teammates. Unless all the variables equal out somewhat, you can't really compare players.

Verratti is going to have a hard time this year imo... because he's going to have to play in a 4231. He's either going to be a CM in a double pivot or a 10. Neither really suits him.

We'll see how he adapts.

Depends on the draw though, everyone will hype the Madrid duo but who did they face? Koke? lmao.

No one has put outstanding performances in the CL last season to give it clear cut to anyone.

Pogba is better equipped physically to handle it. Verratti is really really good in tight areas. He's not as good when he has to cover a lot of real estate...

Verratti has the ability to control the whole flow of a game. Something Pogba has never been able to do. He's a million times better passer as well. Honestly the only thing Pogba has on Verratti is his physicality and his ability to get forward and score. But that's his weakness as well because he has no tactical patients. On the hand Verratti has never struggled physically.

He started slow aka he was suffering after the Copa like other Chileans.
After the winter break he was our best player over the rest of the season. Absolutely immense.

Verratti can't defend... like not at all. All he does is foul when he's beaten. Goes to ground waaay too much. Matuidi and Motta helped him a lot by making the spaces he had to cover small. He also didn't really get involved in the final 1/3 (no goals and 5 assists last season).

Now, it's different. He has to be much more complete in a double pivot. He still won't need to do much in the final 1/3... but he better recover defensively and he better help recover balls.

And speaking of... he already forgot to cover back when he came in and cost a goal. He's also not doing well defensively with ball recovery. Granted, it was 4-0 PSG in the 85th minute when Lyon scored. But this is where Verratti must pick it up.
