Top 3 midfielders in the world at the moment:
1. Modric
2. Verratti
3. Cazorla
Cazorla
The 3 best CM's are Kroos, Modric and Iniesta, the rest are far below.

What exactly happened to make people react like this? the own goal? even that just as much Marquinhos fault.

Been quite average-poor this season for PSG.

@Firenze
He was never average before, you know that as well. I also don't buy into that whole top 5 CM thing though. He has the potential, and will be, but isnt that yet. Even in the NT, Marchisio and De Rossi are both better. Understandably so, given their experience. I wouldnt take any CM his age over him for sure though.
To put it into perspective, he was given the reigns of a very ambitious PSG straight out of Serie B. He never even was in A. His response and maturity are outstanding. An slump in form is expected at some point.

Re: Is this the season Verratti proves he's the best midfielder in the world?
He was never given the reigns of PSG straight out of Serie B. His first year, he did well but had problems with Carlo due to discipline. Then Beckham was brought over in the winter and he was splitting time with him. Carlo also picked Chantome over him due to discipline quite a few times. Matuidi and Motta were clearly the top 2 CMs under Carlo. Verratti caught up to Matuidi and Motta about halfway through Blanc's first season.
For the past 12 months for PSG, Verratti has either been injured or very undisciplined on the pitch. He's regressed some. But he has immense talent and should get his mojo back.
The issue is that he only really did well in a 433 when Motta was covering for him and he played the "Modric" role in that system for PSG. He's had a hard time either playing lower or higher (both have been tried) in a 442 or 4231. He takes too many risks on the ball and he fouls too much when he plays low... he doesn't look for his offense when he plays high. Modric is a great player though so maybe he's fine playing that niche.

Of course, which is why Verratti played twice as many matches and minutes as Motta under Ancelotti.

Motta was injured a lot under Carlo. But he was clearly the man. Come on Rincon. You clearly didn't watch PSG and you're looking at stat sheets. Motta was the one setting the pace in the midfield and Matuidi was the heart and soul.
Verrati started 23 of 38 Ligue 1 games in his first season at PSG and exactly the same in his second season. Under Blanc, that suddenly jumped to 28 and would have been higher if he didn't have health issues late in the year.
Under Carlo, he was often the first player to get subbed off.
And Motta started 31 Ligue 1 games in his one truly healthy season under Carlo. He only had 11 in his first season as he was perma-injured early.

Re: Is this the season Verratti proves he's the best midfielder in the world?
Absolutely, I agree. Motta truly had the reigns of PSG in their shared season under Ancelotti. Verratti playing twice as much in the league and in the CL, and starting most games is irrelevant. The player that plays significantly more is not the one setting the pace in midifled, its the player that should have been doing it had he been there who really runs the game.
Its the same thing that happened with Italy in the euros. De Rossi didn't run the midfield. Marchisio did. Cause had he been there, he would have done it.

Re: Is this the season Verratti proves he's the best midfielder in the world?
Matuidi was incredible for Carlo... he made his name then.
I remember succinctly that Verratti took the step forward when Blanc publicly said after he got another red card... He's not a kid anymore. He's been playing long enough. Either he understands what it takes to be a regular on a top team or we will make decisions... something like that. That got Verratti going.
Kid's issue isn't talent or ability obviously. It's emotions. He needs a manager that can even him out emotionally. The other issue is that he takes unnecessary risks in bad areas. Forgets to play simple.
But, along with Pogba, he's the best young CM out there clearly imo.

Verratti is a mental midget and a physical midget. Not a good combo

Only an absolute dunce of a footballer would argue with the ref with a yellow to his name. It's like he never ever learns, like at all.

The talent was there to be the next great midfielder of this generation. But he went to France at 19 and played at Segunda/Championship level for 6 years so he stagnated just like that.
Same will happen to Mbappe if he doesn't leave IMMEDIATELY.

Have to agree with this. Say what you want about Spain but Spain youth levels in NT has been dominating & Sevilla has been dominating Europa League... In other words, Spains league is elite. But the top 2 are the best and most consistent teams in the world that outspends any other club in the world so it's hard to beat them. Not to say it doesn't happen - Atletico managed to win the league. But Barca and Madrid are out of this world.

Verratti is 25, he still has time to join a club like Juventus and to learn how to be great. He needs Juventus to save him

Sure, they just have to wait till his contract is up as we all know Jjuve can't afford Veratti outright.

your saving grace is that he is not good enough for PSG in CL now, he is getting criticized a lot, and everyone can see it, so they might not be that against selling him if they can identify another midfield to sign.

the problem is that if he isn't good enough for PSG in CL now then neither is any of their midfielders. He manages to outperform them every time.
