The Ballon d'or would have lost all it's remaining credibility had Van Dijk won it.

Next season could be his last or the one after and given that both he and Barca are on a decline, it's very unlikely that they'll win CL in the next 2 years.

He could still get his 7th next year, I think ultimately nobody would mind looking back in the future.

Van Dijk I thought was amazing last season, and rightly so coming close, I mean u feel for other players sometimes, they play their absolute best possible but Messi's level is so high that its still not good enough to beat him
