Strain on N'Zonzi still too big for my liking. He's had an excellent game but he has no support, makes Sevilla suspecitable to the press.

I don't necessarily disagree, I was more just curious about your reasoning. Overall I feel that it wasn't a stupid decision because I think Ter Stegen is good enough with his feet that he's fine doing that. I do think it was an immature decision because it was unneeded (as you said). In time he'll figure out when you should play that pass and when you should do something slightly more fancy. For every other keeper I'd call it stupid because I don't have faith they could do it as well as MatS. For MatS I do have faith he can, but I think the smarter decision is the one you pointed out.

Interesting you'd say that. I was actually going to mention that if it was a better GK (Neuer for example) I wouldn't have minded as much. But I've always got the sense MatS is far too arrogant for his skill level.

You probably watch him much more than I do though so I'm prepared to concede that.

I have a lot of faith in him and I think he'll become as good as Neuer in his ability with his feet, he's just immature yet.

If anything, I'm probably overstating his ability. However I'm personally alright with it, even though I agree with you that it was not the correct decision. Again, I think this will be ironed out in time.

Help me out here, it's been bothering me all day. Last season (or possibly 14/15) there was this kid that emerged for some midtable or relegation side in La Liga and started scoring goals and getting some hype. I remember I even posted in a thread here somewhere talking about how he reminded me of Sergio Canales in his time at Racing etc etc. For the love of me I can't remember his name or which club he played for. I even scoured wikipedia pages of all 20 La Liga teams trying to see if I'll find this guy but no luck.

He even had a very catchy name as well.

I can't possibly have dreamt out this kid. He must be real

^ maybe Adalberto Penaranda? He scored 5 and assisted 3 towards the end of the season with Granada last season, being 18 years old.

Bilbao always do this to me. When I look at a La Liga matchday and I see Bilbao against Real/Barca I routinely think "ooooh I will watch that there could be an upset".
Because seeing Real or barca lose is always pleasurable.

But there's never an upset. Bilbao always pretend to be tough to beat but really just get straightforwardly beaten every time.

Now that I think about it, I think I've grown to detest and hate Bilbao from the bottom of my heart for that continued deception.

I never liked them with their "basque players only" rule anyway. Always good to see them lose. The more goals they concede, the better.

That's what I mean. But why did I get the idea they were a strong team in the first place? Is it the Bielsa aura? The Basque nationalist backbone and purity stuff? Because they knocked out a Fergie Utd once (as if that was some great achievement)?

Possibly a mixture of all what you wrote. That team under Bielsa played really good football and everyone (including Athletic fans) have been waiting for another team of that nature to appear.

Also, they historically had some excellent players come through their ranks (Julien Guerrero, Exteberria, Zarra, Pichichi, Zubizarreta, Urzaiz, Javi Martinez, etc.) but for both points, the time frame for both to happen is quite long and don't always coincide due to their Basque only policy.

A policy which I am still at odds with. Actually, I never liked it.

Edit: I talked to everyone, they don't care what Athletic are up to so ignore the everyone part.

Penaranda fits the bill perfectly but it's definitely not him, this is the first time I've ever heard of him.

Oblak is pretty good

Atletico don't seem to have the same intensity as last season.

Atleti's issue is more about Griezmann not having a preseason... he's not in very good form right now as a result. They don't have a consistent scorer other than him so they need him to be at his best.

Gameiro isn't used to the system yet either... he'll get better.

I also think guys like Juanfran and Gabi are going to show their age.
