Xavi: how dare he not take a pay cut
Honestly if you were dembele why wouldn't you sit out 6 months then walk free wherever you want? Barca needs the transfer fees more than he needs to play
So you believe, with a free transfer, good team will pay the salary he wants. It's not Halaand or Mbappe. You are talking about an injury-prone player who did nothing to justify the Talented tag. Let's not forget that he attended only 87 liga games in 5 seasons including his late-game substitutions.
Or maybe his wage demands aren't actually as outlandish as Barca and their affiliated journalists want to make us believe?
Because apparently, other clubs are willing to offer more than Barca, if they weren't he'd be renewing right?
(inb4 he goes to China..)
Maybe Barca are lowballing him compared to the offers he has? Wouldn't that be more probable given the little conundrum they manouvered themselves in with the height of their wage budget?
Or do they want to blame this conundrum on Dembélé as well, just as they blame getting thrashed by Liverpool on him missing a sitter in his 5 minutes of playing time?
Now the DoF is telling Dembélé to "leave immediately" since he does not want to renew. Lost for words as for the behaviour and attitude of Barca's board.
Funny thing is of course, he's by a country mile their best attacker. They'll be worse off once he's gone.

If other clubs are willing to offer him more than his current contract, then it's because they are getting him as a free transfer, so they won't be paying the overhead fee of signing him.
No club will give him the wages he wants on top of a decent transfer fee.

Barca don't have to pay a transfer fee either (well, technically they still owe Dortmund a chunk of the old one, but they will have to pay that anyway)

The truth is that Barce still owe BVB a rate of the transfer fee, which they were planning on being able to defer into the first year or two of Dembélé's new contract, and since he is not renewing they will have to pay it in summer and it will affect their budget negatively even more and deepen their troubles.
That's why they are now trying to force a winter move so they can recover some sort of money to mitigate the mess they've brought themselves in, and they're blackmailing Dembélé with a seat in the stands to do that.

now go make a graph of Ansu Fatis games and goals in comparison to his 1 billion release clause
and have fun with Ferran Torres being your team's eminent wide attacker

Dembele is talented I dont deny that but he's dumb as a rock and his numbers are Braithwaite level if im being honest. Im sure Ferran is capable of having better numbers over the span of 5 years

When players don't want to leave they more often than not resort to blackmail
Just like PSG blackmailing Mbappe to stay it doesn't show Barca in a good light and will probably affect future recruitment where players probably won't feel safe signing for them knowing Barca can never keep their end of the deal

To answer your question, I'll keep being professional and doing my best to perform whenever the coach calls me. And if he doesn't, still maintain my professionalism and come to training on time while my agent does the dog work of looking for a new club for me.
Honestly, Barcelona was never the club for him as his apparent persona doesn't mesh well with their culture (same with Griezmann). Also, his level of discipline was never gonna cut it at that level so that didn't help.

Players driving their cars through fans, and as they come by one guy goes VAMOS DE JONG, VAMOS PIQUE or whoever was in the car at the time.
And then he goes VAMOS DEMBELE. Why is this the greatest video of all time? Because he said that as the ambulance van was passing by

Barcelona ask for 20M for the departure of Ousmane Dembélé. PSG is a real option, official proposals from the Premier League are expected as well. If Barça have to negotiate with PSG, players can appear in the operation, Icardi is on the table. [@gerardromero]
— barcacentre (@barcacentre) January 30, 2022
PSG have shown an interest in Dembélé and have offered Barcelona an exchange of players. Barça don't want any of the players offered by PSG, such as Mauro Icardi. The Catalans ask for an economic proposal. [rac1]
